ARISS Contact (4/24)
Thanks for sharing the ARISS contact info. I set up our school's computer software (SatPC32) to track the ISS (from our QTH in Austin, TX). Because the pass occurred during my Government class, I explained the ARISS program and how it brings goodwill toward NASA and ISS. I then showed them the Italian astronaut's photo, and explained that she would be speaking with a school in Maryland. With that setup, we walked to the "Radio Room." As we counted down the seconds to AOS in MD, we heard nothing. After about five seconds, I turned down the squelch and Bingo! We listened to the downlink for about five minutes before returning to class. The students (Seniors) were genuinely impressed. FYI: The satellite tracking station we used to monitor this pass will be pictured in QST's June issue.
