The Icom IC-9700 will be released in January 2019 in Japan for 188,000 yen ($1,657 USD).
"Delivery times may vary, depending on the country or region." "The IC-9700 is the perfect side-by-side companion to the IC-7300 HF radio. They are the same size and have almost identical ergonomics. Using the IC-9700 and IC-7300 creates an ideal, compact radio station covering the HF, 144, 430 and 1200 MHz bands."

Since it is the first icom vhf/uhf sdr radio and considering the previous one (910) was released several years ago I would suggested to wait before bugs are resolved.
From previous experiences the first units would have, likely, issues solved later on.
I don’t like to be a beta tester, especially buying the units full price, we all experienced the icom units de pricing after the first 8/10 months (7610 docet)

I agree it’s a bit of a gamble and I generally wait a while, but I have no decent satellite rig now and I’ll take my chances.

I'm still reeling from taking one of the first 7610's delivered. The pre-amp 1 and 2 suppressed the incoming signals. It had to go back to Icom's main repair facility ....at my expense. They did find a cold solder joint in the pre-amp circuit and did return the radio pre-paid. But, I still had to pay the 'to them' shipping! However, it is a very fine radio! 73 George WA5KBH

I have my eye on it to use as a remotely controlled station with the radio in FN03. I would operate it from my home here in Thailand. I'm not optimistic about the price in Canada. However the IC-7300 is a reasonable price, so we'll see.
I have to learn a lot about remotely controlling a rig first.

Ken: I am also in queue to buy an IC-9700 as my first satellite rig. Would you please let me know how the ³remote controlling² plan progresses. Due to limitations at my QTH, (I need to get above 18 meter tall trees to see horizon); I need an orbital ring rotor for my satellite work. With goals to work DX stations and WAS, portable operation isn¹t best suited to meet my operating goals or maybe I need to relook at this and build a portable operating trailer. Interesting, I have been trying for six months to buy a ring rotator for my existing 45G tower that I can also mount an elevation rotor on the back (unbalanced load) for satellite antennas (already bought and in my garage). Six months of trying (so far) and no rotor is on order because no-one can meet the requirements. I¹ve tried K0XG Systems, AlfaRadio (Spid), TicRing, and ProSistel.
So remote controlling a station may be the way I have to go also.. Putting up another tower has received XYL veto.
73, CU on the birds soon.

Hi Dave,
Don't hold your breath waiting for me to set up a remote station. A lot of things have to happen first. If the radio is too expensive that'll kill everything before I get started. I also have to secure a location first. And then there's the problem that I live 12 time zones away from where I want to set up the radio. I'll be lucky to have it going before summer 2019.
All that said, I will most likely buy a pair of Remoterig boxes to use as the interface to the internet. Their equipment has been around for a while and they seem to know Icom equipment pretty well.

The 9700 has an ethernet port & ICOM has remote software, it should be very easy once we know what's actually supported.
Certainly shouldn't need expensive third party units.

I have been wondering how well Icom's remote software will play with typical satellite tracking-tuning software?. I have asked some IC-9100 folks, but have not found someone using both. Perhaps someone here will have experience.

Alan,
You can't run the Icom remote software and SatPC32 together on the 9100 because they fight for the same ports.

That's what I suspected. Been following a general discussion of the subject on the IC-9100 list. There are some features in the Icom remote software which would be nice even in the shack.

Alan,
This is not a direct analogy but I had issues with port sharing on the IC-7300 when running N1MM and WSJT-X. I will spare you all of the steps along the way but I found the easiest solution was to run N1MM through the USB port and WSJT-X via CT-17 using the "Remote" connection on the IC-7300. May not help in your setting but works well for me. For rotator control is use PSTRotator in client/server mode and that is really great.

I have been using RemoteRig successfully with Icom for several years. Works great and ZERO loss of fidelity (detectable by me) due to A>D and D>A conversion.
That said, I use it within the same network; I do not try to remote in from outside of the house.
Good luck!

All that said, I will most likely buy a pair of Remoterig boxes to use as the interface to the internet. Their equipment has been around for a while and they seem to know Icom equipment pretty well.

I have been on the reserve list from day one based mostly on the fact of how well my 7300 works, If the 9700 performs as well it will be light years ahead of my 9100.

I have had the VAPORS for one ever since they were announced. Its not that I couldn't order one, but in the past when I order a new radio in 6 months the new A or D version came out, and mine never did have all of the features of that newer radio. That happened with my Tand R 599 Kenwood Twins, IC-737, my Ft100, FTDX3000. Need I go one.
I am going to wait until they get all of the field mods done, and the list of people on the waiting list goes away and the price goes down. My Ft-847 is working just fine.
So all you that are going to do the trouble shooting on my next radio, I thank you in advance.

I have been on the reserve list from day one based mostly on the fact of how well my 7300 works, If the 9700 performs as well it will be light years ahead of my 9100.

Probably before most everyone on here's time but the 847 had a very big problem with the first batch requiring it to be send back to Yaesu to fix. The first batch had a problem with the RS-232 port not working properly. I'm glad I waited, then ordered after that was resolved. I remember testing the radio at HRO to make sure the serial port worked before buying it :-) So, yes I will also be waiting for a bit before ordering mine. My Flex VU5K, and Icom 9100 are doing just fine for the time being...

If I had a 9100... but I don’t, so I’m going for the 9700. Wish me good luck!
