149 Secondary School, Baku, Azerbaijan
October4, 2023—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between an astronaut aboardthe International Space Station (ISS) and students at the 149 Secondary School locatedin Baku, Azerbaijan. ARISS conducts60-80 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students aroundthe globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS.
The Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azercosmos, is sponsoringthis ARISS contact. Participants will include secondary students at №149 andstudents from nearby schools, in grades 8 through 11. This ARISScontact coincides with two major space events - the International AstronauticalCongress in Baku in October 2023 and the annual celebration of World Space Weekin early October 2023. Students at №149 have also been participating inregional competitions in the category of exact and technical sciences demonstratingtheir scientific curiosity and interest in STEAM studies.
HAM operators from the Azerbaijan Central Radio Club (4K0HQ) andthe Ganja Collective Radio Club (4K2GG) are supporting the school during this ARISScontact.
This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions of Astronaut Andreas Mogensen, amateurradio call sign KG5GCZ. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHzand may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that alsoencompasses the relay ground station.
The amateur radio ground station for this contactis in Baku, Azerbaijan. Amateur radio operators using call sign 4K6EH, willoperate the ground station to establish and maintain the ISS connection.

About ARISS:
Amateur Radio on the InternationalSpace Station (ARISS) is a cooperative venture of international amateur radiosocieties and the space agencies that support the International Space Station(ISS). In the United States, sponsors are the American Radio Relay League(ARRL), Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC), Radio Amateur SatelliteCorporation (AMSAT), NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation program (SCaN)and the ISS National Lab—Space Station Explorers. The primary goal of ARISS isto promote exploration of science, technology, engineering, the arts, andmathematics topics. ARISS does this by organizing scheduled contacts viaamateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students. Before andduring these radio contacts, students, educators, parents, and communities takepart in hands-on learning activities tied to space, space technologies, andamateur radio.
