IM not really sure what resources there are to use there seems to be so many it kinda overwelming were to start. LOL Well just wanted to say hello.

Hey Jimmy, some of the easiest birds to try are AO-27, SO-50, AO-51, and HO-68. All of them are popular birds with plenty of contacts. Only thing to keep in mind is the schedules they run on. You want to make sure they're turned on and what mode they're in when making a pass. A lot of that info can be found on AMSAT.org and I've found YouTube to be a good resource for teaching you how to make your first contact on the birds with just a dual band yagi antenna and a HT or two. Best of luck working the birds!

Keep it up, Jimmy...It may seem daunting at first, but it is really very simple...
A good place to start is the Satellite Handbook from ARRL..It IS dated, but the info there will get you started...
Newbie questions are welcome here, of course....just ask...

Dave,
The Satellite Handbook was updated, I think last year, and was put together by Steve Ford. I have a copy but I still refer to the Martin Davidoff originals!

Yes, Marty certainly put it together, but all we had was 20 meters when I got started on O6 & O7. And with O7 our "nets" cemented it for a lot of us..And little time was wasted gabbing the way we do on here today!!!

Hi Folks,
Oscar News has been published by AMSAT UK since the mid 1970's and we are attempting to find some of the early editions which are absent from the 'master archive'.
The editions we are missing are numbers 1, 6, 13, 14,15 and 18. Also pages 5,6, 23 and 24 from number 180, Dec 2007.
If you have in your possession any of the above, I would be very happy to hear from you - maybe even with a small reward if you have the lot!

I have No 18, dated July 1977.

Jimmy, I'll email to you a PDF file that Tim N3TL sent to me about getting started in (FM) satellites. I don't remember if Tim and Patrick WD9EWK were co-authors, or if it is Patrick's baby alone. :-) It sure helped me clarify things; the only reason I haven't been on the sats is my own laziness, not because of this manual! :-)

Just a note... The Satellite Handbook is updated as of this year... Another good place to find out about Sats is AMSAT.org There you can purchase a book on "Getting started" and have many answers to your present questions... Good luck on the birds. 73, Dee, NB2F NJ AMSAT co-ordinator
