Ya can look but clear or not you won't see either, they're both in shadow. They have to be sunlit to be visible.
I've seen passes of both where the ship passes into shadow during the pass. It would just disappear in an instant.

Rick - Are any of your photo-telescope people broadcasting any of these passes on the 'Net?

Not that I know. I'll ask around. I have on friend who's image the ISS against the sun & the moon (different images, of course) I'll look for them oh his website and post. Quite interesting how he gets to the right location.
