Tip: Inexpensive Digital Voice Recorder
All,
For those of you who have not already invested in a digital voice recorder for recording your hand-held satellite ops (highly recommended), I ran across the Sanyo Digital Voice Recorder - ICR-FP600D at eCost for only $12.99 + S&H (refurb). See URL: http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=58169925&navid=155441519
Note: I do not own this model, so I cannot comment on it's quality or features, but for this price it appears to be a pretty good deal. The only downside might be that this model does not have USB connectivity, rather audio is stored on an SD card (1GB SD card is included according to the description, but some other places selling this model have reported that this model doesn't come with the SD card...), which can be removed and inserted into a PC SD card reader for transferring the files to your computer.
For those that are interested, you can find the user manual at URL: http://www.sanyo.de/produkte_daten/Dictation/manual/SANYO_SANYO_ICR-FP600D_I...

Hi Doug,
Question:
How are you recording your qso's when handheld? Are you just recording your spoken side of the qso or do you have the recorder tied into to the earphones somehow. (on the base of course, one can just pick up from a speaker jack into the recorder)
Also, a CAUTION on some of the inexpensive recorders. Most do not have an on/off switch or APO function, so you need to pop the batteries in and out which is kind of annoying.

Ted,
I work birds with a Kenwood TH-D7A. I use a 2 male/1 female y connector and Plug one end into the Speaker jack on the microphone, one into the mic jack on the recorder and then plug my earphones into the female jack. The speaker jack on the mike only passes the receive output, but with the radio in full duplex, I get my signal from the downlink. Works like a charm. I hear both sides of the QSO.
