AMSAT Symposium Breaking News: Low Cost Airfares
All,
The 2009 AMSAT Symposium is rapidly approaching! And we hope you can join us..especially given that there are some low-cost airfares out there for those of us in the US.
We have an outstanding venue this year at the Four Points Sheraton at the BWI Airport. Your symposium committee recently did a walkthrough of this facility. The accommodations and meeting rooms are superb. I do a lot of traveling and I must say that the rooms are absolutely beautiful. You will definitely get a substantial bang for your buck (or Euro, etc) at this symposium. And planned 40th Anniversary celebratory events will be truly memorable.
And to make things even better, Southwest Airlines has a phenomenal Nationwide (US) fall sale. $59-109 one-way airfares are available to BWI until Sept 3. And remember, with Southwest, there are no baggage fees.
So we'd love to see you in "Charm City"-Baltimore Maryland..for the symposium presentations, 40th anniversary celebrations, poster sessions, and BoD meeting.
And don't forget to submit a symposium paper to Dan Schultz, N8FGV, ASAP!!

I just looked, seems like you needed to travel on Wednesday to make that work. PVD to BWI was the cheapest I could find in the regional airports here in MA.
I'm flying in Friday morning, hoping to spend the day at the Electronics and Crypto museums. This will be my first Symposium, I typically have another meeting that week, but it didn't conflict this year.

Hi Folks,
I will be booking my transatlantic flight over the next couple of days, and have a few questions. I wonder if anyone could help me?
1. Whats the best (easiest/cheapest) way to get from Washington Dulles airport to Baltimore?
2. Is there an airline that flies direct from Baltimore to Portland MA (I will be visiting firnds after the Symposium)
3. How far/whats the best way to get from the hotel to the Crypto museum?
My email to the hotel bounced, and their web page about local transportation isnt very helpful - not that I'm complaining - oh, maybe I can, the hotel isnt a volunteer, I guess ;-)

Jim,
I'm not an expert (I moved away from the DC area in 1969), but here is a little information to get you started.
1. Dulles to BWI (Baltimore-Washington International) airport (copied from a longer post) --
Cheapest: DC Metrobus from Dulles to L'Enfant Plaza station. This bus is a little hard to find, it stops at the first island away from the curb, on the ground level, near the left end of the airport as you face it from outside. There are some "Metrobus" signs around, just follow them or ask someone who works there. When you get to L'Enfant Plaza, go into the Metro (subway train) and ride to Greenbelt station. Then take the DC Metrobus to BWI airport. Total cost about $8. Trip duration: 2.5 hours.
Fastest: Taxi. Total cost about $80. Trip duration: 1 hour.

2. Portland, MA? For the U.S. Postal Service, the abbreviation for State of Massachusetts is "MA" and for State of Maine is "ME". The airline code for the Portland, Maine airport is PWM.
Assuming you're going to Maine, both AirTran Airways and US Airways offer non-stop service to Portland from BWI.
I'll let someone with recent knowledge of Baltimore help you with the Crypto museum.
Hopefully this information will get you going. With a little luck, I'll see you at the Symposium.
