USB driver for Windows 7, 64-bit, for IC-9100
Hello, A friend of mine needs to steer the IC-9100 by SatPC32I/SatPC32ISS via the radio's USB port for a coming ISS school contact. He is using a Laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit. As he told me the generated virtual COM ports are marked with a yellow exclmation sign (which indicates a driver problem) and he gets the error message that a USB device could not be recognized.
Does somebody successfully steer the IC-9100 via one ot the USB ports under Windows 7, 64bit?
If so, what driver are you using (dirver name, download link)? As far as I see (I don't have an IC-9100) the driver name could be CD-301501-004.zip and the link: https://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm/IC-7600/usb1_30/
Can both USB ports be used for CAT control or only one of them?
Many thanks 73s, Erich, DK1TB
Hi Erich,
I can't help entirely, but maybe I can add some information. The 2 USB ports are different--one appears to be dedicated to "CAT" control, the other to audio to/from computer and radio. So I don't think they are interchangeable. I had to experiment to figure out which was audio and which was CAT! This weekend I was using the IC-9100 on HF with FT8, with both CAT control and USB audio for xmit and receive. Very nice when working.
I'm running under Win10. Coincidentally, just yesterday I tried to remove the current drivers (which are working fine!) and to replace with the lastest USB drivers from ICOM (1.3 I think, which adds more radios and USB3 maybe?). According to the docs, the first step was to remove the current drivers. This was not possible with a "remove software" typical route! So I quickly gave up and resigned to using the current drivers, which work fine anyhow.
My initial thoughts--have him remove any existing Icom USB drivers, per the instruction sheets. Next, Make SURE the rig is not connected via the USB cable. Install new drivers per the instructions. Then connect rig. Figure out which ports were installed (Device Manager). Try setting in SatPC32 to one of them, if that doesn't work, try the other com port number installed.
There is a good bit of documentation on the iCom site, so your friend may have some good reading to do first :)
Sorry I can't be any more help than that...

Hi Erich,
Just the first port is used for CAT control.
I'm using the v1.20 USB driver. It works very well for the IC-9100 under Win7 64pro. File name is CD-301501-003.zip
As far as I know, the latest version, v1.30 is for Win10, and does not work correctly under Win7. See ***
The "CP210x_Universal_Windows_Driver_ReleaseNotes.txt" included in the zip reads:
"RELEASE NOTES ============= Silicon Labs Virtual COM Port (VCP) Universal Driver for Windows 10
Package version: 10.1.2 Release date: 2018-05-14
This package contains a Virtual COM Port Universal driver for Microsoft Windows 10 for use with Silicon Labs VCP USB Serial Bridges. These devices include the CP2102N, CP2102, CP2103, CP2104, CP2105, CP2108, CP2109.
OS VERSIONS ----------- This package provides the CP210x VCP driver for the following versions of Windows:
- Windows 10 (x86 32/64 bit)
CHOOSING VCP DRIVER VERSION --------------------------- *** *VCP drivers of version 10.0.0 and later are released for Windows 10 as** **Universal Drivers. This means they do not work on older version of Windows** **such as Window 7 and 8.1. * You should use this driver if you only need support for Windows 10, or you need the Universal driver. If you require support on older versions of Windows, you should use the legacy VCP driver which can be found on the Silicon Labs web site. The legacy Windows VCP drivers have version numbers less than 10.0.0."
