Cal Poly's next satellite, CP6, is scheduled to launch on May 5th between 20:00 and 23:00 EDT. Modulation: FSK (but uses LSB cheat to make AFSK) Radio Mode: LSB (neccesary for LSB cheat) Baud Rate: 1200 baud Beacon rate: 1 beacon every 2 minutes
I sure hope they have a true FSK demodulator, because trying to match almost 9000 Hz of Doppler in the blind to within 100 Hz or so to use AFSK for something that only lasts a second will be a real challenge....
But it is good to see something new in space!

Hi Bob,
I second your comments. Waiting 2 minutes for a 1 second burst is going to be a challenge indeed, even with computer controlled receiver tracking.
Jason, I trust you have the transmit sequence correct?? What's the planned Pout? What's the best link to tech details?
But we can always use a new challenge so the very best of luck to your team.

yes it is a real challenge - but I heard many beacons from CP4 long time ago (sometimes in 5-minutes interval !)
The most important thing is to listen to CW header (6 seconds) - in this time you can adjust the frequency and catch the packet burst. I hope it's the same like CP4.... A running spectrum analyzer software is very helpful. So you can quickly adjust the frequency to the right value.
Some older CP4 reports on my website http://www.dk3wn.info/sat/afu/sat_cp.shtml It's in German but I think you can understand the way I went.
Another way is to record the beacon and then analyze the burst with MixW. There is an CUSTOM AFSK mode.
