Folks,
Can I use a soundcard TNC connected to a radio to receive the 9600 telemetry from AO51 or must I have a hardware TNC?

Hi Ed, I have not done it recently (I mostly work with GO-32), but I was using my laptop soundcard and MixW to decode AO-51 9K6 downlink.
The biggest issue with 9K6 audio is that it will not pass through the normal audio filtering circuits in your transceiver. Your transceiver needs to have a "data in/out port -- or have some internal switching circuitry to allow the computer sound card (or an external TNC for that matter ) "direct" access to the FM detector (for receive) and the varacter for transmit - (ie -- no normal audio filtering / conditioning circuits in the path)

I have been using the sound card up until i got a KPC9612
I am happy to say the 9612 does as well as the sound card and vice versa.
Doppler is noticable on 435.150 MHz.
I like AO-51 telem because it is there more often than GO-32.
I have been using agwpe sound card at 9k6.
Data (9k6) output on my icom 706 mkii g
Antenna is a 10 turn helix. LHCP
Happy hunting.
