I recently purchased an M2 Satellite Eggbeater antenna kit with the intention of working satellites from my shack. I think this antenna will work best with a pre-amp for the 70cm band that perhaps I can put in my attic close to the antennas. Who makes a good pre-amp for this situation to mate with my FT-8800 radio. Thanks, Peter KC2RBX
Peter, Assuming full duplex and no rf switching requirement (aka recieve only) my particular choice is DEMI's series of preamps. Cost $75 built and tested. If you're like me and don't mind a little solder smoke, and have access to test equipment for alignment, the kit is available for 45$. 73 es see you on the birds. Norm n3ykf PS: I use mine with a pair of quadrifiliar helix antennas. ---- PETER SIMONSEN pureenduro@msn.com wrote:

Peter,
A 70 cm preamp is always useful! There are a lot of them out there, but my experience is that ARR and SSB Electronics make the best. Definitely not the cheapest, though.

Be certain to get one which is RF switched, and which will handle your rig's power. No matter how careful you are, you WILL transmit into it someday. Been there, done that.
You will need to split your single antenna jack on the rig to two lines. Almost any diplexer gives 50 db+ separation, but there are a few which are only 30 db or so. Worth checking.
