Re: HRD Satellite Tracking - Technology Preview
Simon, Before downloading and trying it out can you tell me if the satellite tracking program works without having the radio(s) connected? One of the original versions of HRD that I used allowed me to check passes etc without the need to have the radio in line - the latest version was inoperable unless the radio was there. I stopped using HRD at this point although the well documented problem with the non- functioning Doppler compensation control was another factor. Thanks, David KG4ZLB

A week later than expected the very first technology preview of the new HRD satellite tracking module is available:

Something to play with while the HEO satellites are being prepaired :-)

Yes, you do *not* need to connect to a radio.
An advantage of splitting this code into its own executable is that I can maintain it - with too much in the HRD executable it's just too easy to change something in one area and break something else.
Re: Doppler - you can update Kepler files as often as you want, for example download latest data every 15 minutes. Listening to CW beacons on 70cms I hear (and see) no change in pitch at all, so the Doppler's working!

Thanks Simon, I will give it a go.
My comments about Doppler may have been in error, what I meant was the fact that HRD failed to keep up with the change in the satellites movement and it was also impossible to use the manual tuning function as it just reverted back to what HRD wanted it to be at - these points I brought up maybe two years ago on the help forums! I like using the satellite function of HRD as, apart from NOVA, I think it has the best user interface screen of any others I have tried!

David: The version of HRD that I use has a check box to allow manual tuning and it dosen't revert back to the HRD setting.
Works fine on my 847 and 817.
