Anybody ever try fixing an ARR P432VDG preamp yourself? I was recently given one that I suspect was transmitted into. Drawing more current than spec'd (45 mA vs. spec of 25), no S-meter increase when connected. Or am I better off just sending it in? ARR's website says most GaAsFET preamp repairs run around $22.50 plus shipping...

George,
Over the years I have sent a couple preamps to ARR for repair. I've always been happy, whether the job was under warranty or afterwards. My experiences have been excellent, and the price is reasonable, given the nature of the repair (tiny parts, static sensitive, etc.)

George,
Unless you enjoy repairing stuff, and many do, I would just send it in. ARR will do a good job, quickly, and right. Not all GaAsFETs are equal, and they will check the noise figure and gain as part of the checkout before shipping.
