Re: New Ham antenna to be installed on the ISS Columbusmodule tomorrow,
On this photo you see the new 2&70cm ham radio antenna which was funded by AMSAT-NA and made by volunteers. http://iss.ontwikkel.nl/ISSPICS/newhamantennebig.jpg
On this photo you see an ISS crew member installing the AIS (Automatic Information System) ship tracking antenna. http://iss.ontwikkel.nl/ISSPICS/isscolumbusbig.jpg
Both antenna's areinstalled on the ISS Columbus module.
Thanks to Lou McFadin (W5DID), Amsat-NA, ESA and all the people who worked on this project.

Hi all.
The plans for the antennas on Columbus have clearly been a great success. Lou and AMSAT-NA have done a wonderful job with the VHF/UHF and ARISS in general have manged to get permission / fund raise and purchase / fit patches for L and S band. - Great job everyone.
A couple of weeks ago I was at a UK microwave event and was asked " Now we have the antennas, when will the hardware be launched?" -Rapidly followed by: "What is being launched?"
I'm not often stuck for an answer on satellite topics, but I was on this occassion.
Does anyone know:
Is there a plan Is there any hardware being built / purchased Is there a committee sitting somewhere creating a specification so they can say - Who can build us this for us....?
Currently within AMSAT there is a lot of work going on designing modules for space. HF VHF UHF together with L S and C Band are all being assembled in various parts of the world. We collectively have the designs / people and ability to make this happen.
I just hope it is all happening, but 'under the radar'
Thanks
David

Hi Sat folks,
Last evening at 0045 to 0054 UTC just right after dark here in Utah there was a pass of the ISS and the space shuttle that was spectacular to watch. The two were separated and the shuttle was trailing the ISS in orbit probably by several hundred miles. The sight was just awesome!

We plan to use the V/U antenna with the Ericsson HTs (VHF and UHF) that were the original ham equipment aboard ISS. However, power hookups in Columbus differ from other parts of ISS and the Ericssons won't be operational until we can design, build, and fly a new power distribution box. Work is underway for this.
The L and S band antennas were managed from Europe and I haven't heard how equipment for them is coming along.
