Bruce Willis' recent movie Live Free or Die Hard http://www.livefreeordiehard.com/ has extensive on screen presence of him in a NYPD unmarked cruiser speaking on a ham radio looking mobile rig at 144.330 mhz. This frequency is obviously a 2 meter ham band frequency, which falls in the sub-plan of 144.300-144.500, assigned to new http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/all_oscars.php OSCAR subband (the satellite repeater links). I know it's Hollywood but I would consider contacting the producer, mentioning the consequences, and asking for a donation for funding satellite construction for potential damages.only half-joking.hi-hi
Hollywood needs better consultants."Frequency" bothered me more with him doing transceive on a Heathkit SB-401 transmitter (from memory, but something like that). Perhaps that is another potential AMSAT revenue stream!!!

I would appreciate a bit of advice concerning h/t's?
I spoke with Icom US who admitted that despite the current adverts claiming the IC-91A/D is the replacement to the W32A, its not - no full duplex for a start!
So, I have the E or T90 which on the back of a bit of research I now find that by selecting "split" in the menu options, I can listen on 440 and transmit on 144 - its not full duplex I know, but for the FM birds (and coupled with an arrow type antenna), can I make this radio work on the birds?
Thanks in advance

David,
You can use it, but you will not know if your signal is actually getting through the bird or if you are transmitting over someone else. I would say give it a try until you can get a cheap 2nd radio that can serve as either the transmitter or the receiver. This way you will create a full-duplex setup - with 2 radios. Also keep in mind that you will need a diplexer for the Arrow if you are using just one radio.

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my original question - I have had two W32A's in the past and like an idiot I sold them and then regretted it afterwards - and of course, they then stopped making them!
Not being a great fan of Yaesu or Kenwood, I have stayed loyal to Icom for a long time, my present satellite radio being a 910HX. From what has been posted, it seems that at a pinch, the T90/E90 will suffice with an Arrow antenna for the FM only birds so maybe thats the way to go for the time being!
Thanks again,

David, not sure if you are interested in this or not, but I used a Yaesu FT-50R for 2M uplink and a cheap radioshack scanner for downlink for almost a year. While quite cumbersome, it worked great and I have many QSO cards that say so. I actually find it easier to use then the full duplex radio, and this is why. My TH-D7 requires that I "switch vfo's" before I can adjust for doppler, so sometimes I forgot to switch back to the 2M vfo and ended up transmitting on 440 instead of the 2M uplink. The scanner was easy - I just pushed either the up or down button to adjust for doppler. See the link below for more details including pictures of my portable satellite setup.

This movie while cool, broke so many rules it wasn't even funny. The son, who is for sure NOT licenced, fires up his dads old rig, and talks on it. hmmmm,
