Picked up a like new Yaesu G5400B Az/El rotor and controller tonight from a friend. I'm thrilled to add to the station, but need some advice on how to best interface this rotor for computer control working with SATPC32.
Any quirks, tricks, or other issues I should be aware of before installing? It's going inside the attic, so weatherproofing is a non-issue. As always, grateful for the advice. The satellite community is one of the most generous with sharing information, and as a newcomer I'm thankful.
The LVB Tracker from AMSAT is a true plug-and-play interface, as is the clone of it from Fox Delta.
I have both, and they work flawlessly.

I originally used the FODTrack interface, which I had the PC board made for by FAR Circuits (and now they carry it as a regular item). It required a parallel printer port. I recently switched to the SatTracker 688 from the ARRL to be compatible with a netbook that only has USB ports.
Both interfaces worked perfectly.

If you'd like to build one, the total cost should be in the $$45 range with all the bits and pieces brand new. See http://blog.radioartisan.com/yaesu-rotator-computer-serial-interface/ 73 de Norm n3ykf

I use the Easy Rotor Control from Germany http://easy-rotor-control.com/ I have a discontinued version but the ERC-M is what they have now. It has calibration software and is spot on as far as tracking goes. Interfaces with SatPC very easily and will move AZ and EL at the same time.
Have Fun !

Same here:
Easy Rotor Control from Germany http://easy-rotor-control.com
outstanding kit and also allowed me to interface an old K500 elevation rotor for PC control.

Hi Les,
The Fox Delta ST-1 interface has worked well for me for several years. The lights on my control unit have burned out over the 30 years that I have had my G-5400B, but since I don't usually manually point anymore I haven't replaced them. I leave it powered up 24/7 and it's ready to go when I fire up SATPC32.

Hi All,
Please look for us SAT and Sunday this weekend. We will be using one of these calls K4AMG or W4FOS.
We will be on the satellites from the Great Bridge Lock Park Celebrating the City of Chesapeake, Virginia 50th Birthday.
Our hours will be Sat: 10 AM - 5 PM EDT and SUN Noon - 4 PM EDT.
We will operateall passes avaliable from AO7, FO29, SO50, and VO52. SO50 is iffy as their is an image on it's frequency.
Our booth at the festival will offer a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) question to students. The Question deals with Doppler Shift.
We hope to "Q" with you.
God Bless
