US Schools/Groups Move Into Phase 2 of ARISSSelections
May 13,2021 —Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) ispleased to announce the schools/host organizations selected for the January-June2022 contact window. A total of 9 of the submitted proposals duringthe recent proposal window have been accepted to move forward in the processesof planning to host a scheduled amateur radio contact with crew on the ISS. Theprimary goal of the ARISS program is to engage young people in Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities and raise theirawareness of space communications, radio communications, space exploration, andrelated areas of study and career possibilities.
ARISS anticipates thatNASA will be able to provide scheduling opportunities for these US hostorganizations. The candidates must nowcomplete an equipment plan that demonstrates their ability to execute the hamradio contact. Once their equipment plan is approved by the ARISS technicalteam, the final selected schools / organizations will be scheduled as theiravailability and flexibility match up with the scheduling opportunities.

In the UnitedStates, sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the AmericanRadio Relay League (ARRL), the ISS National Lab-Space Station Explorers, and NASA’sSpace communications and Navigation program. The primary goal of ARISS is topromote exploration of science, technology, engineering, the arts, andmathematics topics. ARISS does this by organizing scheduled contacts viaamateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students.
