The Yaesu FT-60R is often promoted as a good choice for beginners. This promotion can be misleading to many who buy this radio believing it has some magical ability to perform any better than any other dualband HT programmed for "split" (semi-duplex.)

The radio itself is not the problem. It's the misperception that buying this HT will equate to success that leaves many frustrated.

Let's set realistic expectations. Semi-duplex does work but it's not ideal. Promoting simple equipment is great but needs to be matched with the right fundamental skills.
