In a private note, Ed (KL7UW) pointed out that his gain numbers had assumed an aperture efficiency of 55%. Given this ~-3 dB value for the losses, his "gain" and my "directivity" values (as contained in the AMSAT Symposium paper I referenced) are in agreement. Thanks to Ed for explaining his assumptions.
