My 22 year old Landwehr VHF preamp finally gave it up.
I'd appreciate leads on high quality mast mounted preamps for VHF. AR2 doesn't answer their phone and some uni's I work with say it takes days to get a call back then AR2 didn't have the one they wanted and said they would not be making any more. And SSB USA's recording says they are only available sporadically. Looks like I can order direct from SSB in Germany so that's an option.
Are there any low noise RF switched manufacturers/vendors in the U.S. these days? Where are folks getting preamps these days?
Jim
I find myself in the same boat! I've always depended on ARR for preamps, but they told me material cost to build the units will run the price up too much, so they decided to stop making the 2 M preamp I need. Here is one you might want to look into Jim. I've only used Mirage for their pw amps in the past, but have been fairly satisfied with their product and repair service. https://www.mirageamp.com/Product.php?productid=KP-2/2M

Not U.S., but much more reasonably priced than some of the others, and I've been very pleased with the "Mini" pre-amps from their catalog: http://www.shf-elektronik.de/en/index.htm -- Mark D. I made this offer to Jim, so he has first option. I have both a ARR144vdg and 432vdg in excellent condition excess to my needs. I'd prefer to sell the pair $250 shipped conus. Pic's available on request. Paypal preferred.

Dave,
I tried Mirage way back when and found the NF not so good. In about 91ish when I was the command station for AO-16 and DO-17 I remember changing out a Mirage for an ARR and it made a measurable difference on UHF. I see on their current datasheet it's still not as good as SSB and ARR (and probably others).
Having said that it's probably fine for most uses and $100 less than the SSB I just ordered.

This one looks like a good design:

One could almost build one's own board from the pictures off the website.

I use their 903 and 2304 preamps. Work well and a lot of options.
