OLPC:
Anyone know when to expect delivery on the one-laptop-per-child, or did both of mine go to peru? I think several people on here ordered one.

Bob:
Maybe we could all get together for lunch or dinner with our new XO-1 computers.... Note that the software in the XO-1s is open source and we should be able run the mesh networking software on any Linux computer....
The Hinternet folks have playing with 803.11 for years now. Do a Google search on "HSMM". WiMax technology is coming down line and that is more oriented as a MAN (metropolitan area network).

All the website says is that they're trying to get delivery "Before the Holidays". I'm anxiously awaiting mine, too! Jim KQ6EA --- Robert Bruninga bruninga@usna.edu wrote:

I was a first day order and my XO arrived yesterday. This morning I was able to connect to the web at Tulley's and SSH to the home system all with built in tools. Everything so far is very attractive except for the small keyboard. The FAQ says it'll work with a USB mouse or keyboard so I'm looking forward to trying that tonight.

Allegedly these laptops are designed to visible in even direct sunlight. My interest is figuring out how to run PSK-31 in these laptops.

The way I see it: * Goal is $100 laptop * Runs under Linux * Excellent visibility in bright sun * Runs Display uses only 0.1W in sun * Can be charged by solar power * built-in 802.11 wireless plus automatic MESHING with others * Targeted at youth worldwide...
And on and on...
Seems the perfect platform for HAM radio!

And more than that .. the perfect platform to build apps for that promote ham radio in variously subtle ways.
(Imagining an inexpensive kit-buildable transceiver that plugs into an OLPC, with free downloadable software custom tailored to it, targeting PSK31 or other common narrowband digital modes .. :D )
