Hi AL
I ran into some issues with my Yaesu FT-847 one year ago. He was acting strangely as the processor was corrupted. Someone told me a full reset can solved my issues and he was right all the menu functions are returning back to their normal state. I don't know if the Icom main processor can be resetted? but before sending it to the repair shop it's could be something to try.
P.S. Doing a reset make all your memory settings disappear just take note of your settings and other memory parameters before resetting.

This is a link to Kuni. He makes repairs for ICOM America in Bellevue Wa.
He has repaired many ICOM radios and repair prices are very fair.
Bets of luck with your radio.

Al, I have had problems with my IC 820H not locking not responding to controls and being intermittent. Problem was traced to several ribbon type cables that interconnect the various boards and switches to the MPU unit. Careful removal and cleaning restored all functions and now has been free of trouble for 2 + years. It has an excellent receiver and very poor control functions. I have found switching between the main and sub bands using the RIT on receive and tuning the transmitter on transmit makes it easy to handle the Doppler on the SSB satellites.
Good luck on getting it back up and working.

In an open effort to help any AMSAT member with ICOM satellite rig problems, may I offer this recommendation.
Through personal experiences with ICOM radio repairs, I have found Scott Malcom, KA7MEF, who heads up Malcom Technical Services (MTS), to be extremely talented in ICOM repair, and one of the most fair persons to deal with ever. Malcom Technical Services is located at 5130 Jackson Hwy, Toledo, WA 98591-8680. His email is < mts@trip.net > if you wish to contact him. Scott also has excellent reviews on eHam.net, and I highly recommend him for any ICOM repair work.
