When I refer to 1296 or 1268.. I think 1.2gig, not a Letter like S, X, K, what have you.
I need a little help or a link to a list that breaks down what band is L/S/U/K/V/ ect.
I looked on the amsat page.. but could not find anything.
In time ill memorize it.. but when trying to think of future plans for my station and doing my research.. the use of both is so common.. its confusing trying to figure out my needs.
Thanx!

Here's the US Government chart (Navy) of spectrum designations:
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/navy/docs/scmp/part08.htm
Actually it looks worldwide but the US portion seems to be closest to what Amateurs use...

AMSAT has used the following band designators:
H or A = 29.3-29.5 MHz V = 145.8-146 MHz U = 435-438 MHz L = 1,260-1,270 MHz uplink only S or S1 = 2,400-2,450 MHz S2 = 3,400-3,410 MHz C = 5,650-5,670 MHz uplink and 5,830-5,850 MHz downlink X = 10,450-10,500 MHz K = 24,000-24,050 MHz R = 47,000-47,200 MHz

A=28-30 MHz V=145 MHz U=435 MHz L=1.2 GHz S=2.4 GHz C=5.6 GHz X=10 GHz K=24 GHz R=47 GHz
3.4 GHz is also in the s-band but not currently used for satellite (but this may change). There you go :-)
