Matt, Yes, you can select a different radio (i.e. IC275) and set the proper address to control an IC271. Different radio models implement different subsets of the CI-V command specification, that's why you have the option to select different radios. All the commands used by WiSPDDE for IC275 are understood also by IC271 so you're fine. It is most probable that this situation will be true with any other radio-control program as well.

I don't know the PIexx interfaces so I cannot advice on them.

Check WiSPDDE's page, a new version is close to be uploaded which corrects problems with split-mode operation (for ISS etc.) with Icom radios www.laboratoriomederos.com/CX6DD
