I am considering buying an IC910H. I will be controlling it via Trx-Manager. Any comments out there concerning this radio?
Thanks

Hi Mike,
I own one because of the following:
Six members of our North Shores Amateur Radio club and I made tests comparing the three major suppliers. HRO loaned me the radio, and it never left my house!
We used my antenna system (AZEL yagis, verticals and quadrifilar) using coax switching for an immediate comparison. Testing was done on AO40, and several LEO's available at the time...
Owners of the other two brands declared their next one would be ICOM...
I know nothing about Trx-manager, I use IT and SatPC32...

Disagree: I learn....
Pulling for P3E...
I am no expert by any means but the 910 is a great VHF/UHF and satellite radio that will do everything that you need - I believe the Kenwood TS-2000 is another strong contender. In terms of aesthetics though, avoid Yaesu - they might do the job but they all seem to look like they were made by pre-cold war Eastern European's! Still, if you like the Commie look.......

Hey, that's me an over-the-hill ex cold-war commie with my much loved FT-847! Actually, since I live in Russian America (what Alaska was before 1867), I guess the moniker fits ;-)
Since the FT-847 is out of production, I suspect that when P3E launches or near to then, Yaesu will launch a replacement to the FT-847. Maybe they can buy up some old Collins cabinets and make them really "retro"!
Of course the really smart move would be an SDR-based satellite rig! Small black box with coax connectors and USB or Firewire I/F...and sell it for $349.95 (dream on).

Hi,
"...I suspect that when P3E Launches..." I have talked with the Yaesu folks at Dayton, and in private conversations they will talk about an updated replacement for the FT-847 being ready to go, but waiting for some new birds, and users. It will be interesting to see what the story is this year.

Aha! Well, Yaesu unvieled the FT-847 just before launch of AO-40.

That's pretty interesting, as when I talked to them at the ARRL Southwestern Division HAMCON in September, they told me they had no plans for an FT-847 replacement. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. 73, Jim KQ6EA
