I am trying to get predict going on an eeepc.
I have it installed, but every time I run it, it keeps asking for QTH and lat lon and height.
It then drops back to a command prompt.
I have looked at the permissions on /root/.predict and set to 777
It is almost like it is having trouble writting or reading and bombing out
Ideas ?
I have gpredict running.

sudo predict
fixed it
but i change to root and ran it and it bombed out

Check owners and permissions on various directories - if sudo fixed it then it's a permission problem
The reason it doesn't work on root is root probably doesn't have the correct path(s).

Predict doesn't need to be run or installed as root for the program to function. It can be installed anywhere.
The first time it runs it will go through the prompts, for the user running the program and create a .predict directory under that users home directory and then each time its run after that it will use the files from that directory.
If the first time you run the program it was as root or with the sudo command then the .predict directory will be created as owned by root and normal users won't be able to update it, so predict will prompt each time it is run..

Don't run as root except for system administration tasks.
Predict is looking up your home directory to create its .predict directory. Same mechanism as ~username to identify a home directory. If the home directory doesn't exist, this will fail and predict will bomb out.
I've run predict on a Gumstix embedded Linux board. Which has more CPU and memory than the first computer I ever ran Linux on. :-)
