The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Administrative Council holds its Amateur Satellite Forum on alternating years between the AMSAT-NA Symposium and the AMSAT-UK Colloquium. This year is the turn to hold this forum in the USA at the Symposium on Sunday, Oct- ober 28.
Three speakers are currently scheduled to address the forum. There is also time planned for a panel discussion with the IARU delegates. The forum will be open to everyone attending the Symposium.

SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-273.03 Students to Build Satellite Antennas at AMSAT Symposium

Richard Crow, N2SPI will conduct a workshop which will mentor students to build satellite antennas for 145 and 435 MHz. They will be able to use their antenna to receive signals from AO-51, SO-50, and AO-27. The workshops are slated to take place on Friday evening and Saturday morning at the Symposium.

SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-273.04 Sputnik 50th Anniversary Special Events Planned for October 4

AMSAT-NA will mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik with a special event on AO-51. AO-51 will rebroadcast original Sputnik telemetry and a congratulatory message to mark the event during passes over North America on the evening of Wednesday, October 3rd in North America, which is early October 4th UTC. At this time, only the passes over North America will be able to carry the special event. Please watch ANS and the amsat-bb mailing list for further information as the date approaches.
Robert, G8ATE and John, G7HIA will be using the special call sign GB50SO starting on the 4th October for one month to celebrate the 50th Anni- versary of the launch of the first earth orbiting satellite SPUTNIK ONE on that date in 1957. All of the available analogue satellites will be used as time permits. A special QSL card will be available after the event.

For the reservation code, go to the AMSAT website and click on the left hand side - AMSAT Symposium. + Norm Fusaro, W3IZ, ARRL Assistant Manager, Membership & Volunteer Programs Department wrote this week, "After review, ARRL will permit contacts through the ISS (Earth - ISS - Earth) to be counted towards satellite endorsement for WAS and DXCC. This applies to contacts made via the onboard repeater equipment provided that the equipment does not hold and re-transmit information. Contacts with the ISS do not receive any award credit.
