Hi Lyle
The analog transponder package(s) for Eagle were decided to be based on SDX technology at the meeting in Pittsburgh in Oct 2005. The overall architecture - including preliminary wiring harness design - was then drawn up at a subsequent meeting in Colorado Springs later that same month.
Thanks for your comments.
I am referring to this from Rick, sent on 25 July 2005:
See the Eagle specification document at http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/eagle/Eagle_Fall_2004.php
It says "To provide a safe backup system in case of a failure in the digital implementation of the linear transponders there will be two S-Band transmitters and either of them will be capable of being driven by the SDR driver or by a traditional analog linear driver. One or more of the receivers will also be capable of analog operation."
Which was in direct response to this question:
I'd hate to think we are going to hang our entire mission on just the SDR transponders. Wouldn't it be prudent to include at least a bare bones analog backup transponder? Please tell me this is the plan.
If the situation has changed, then I am not sure that we have properly communicated it. My concern is that if we don't deal with this then it will come out and bite us in the future.
