Larry:
As I said on the AMSAT-BB, this was NEVER meant to be public in its current form. We did NOT want to admit publicly in a document that we were ceding the L band. We are now beginning to really understand the political realities and this has nothing to do with the whining in the AMSAT-BB. We are starting to see what might be widespread loss ALREADY in 2400-2540. We are going to stop here and complete the entire analysis, technical, political, and regulatory. We have been lazy and foolish long enough. Upon request, we have been given help from Paul Rinaldo and the League. Paul will attend the AMSAT symposium. I did not know what his reasons were for coming but I am glad he has chosen to do so. I now suspect that he is trying to help us understand how bad the situation actually is since he has just returned from several IARU meetings in Bangalore and then went to ITU meetings in Geneva. The League commissioned a 802.11 noise temperature study called ARIA. But the phenomenon of loss of the amateur satellite bands to interference mitigation from unlicensed 802.11 is (unfortunately) news to me. We will understand NOW if there is any real hope for the vision statement to go forward by marrying the technical work we did in San Diego with the bloody other work we should have done in total before we went to San Diego.
