Ok, the 33A board (which seems physically identical to the ones I have been using) now "works", that is it gets to the point of complaining about the serial number.

The trick/problem is/was (and now I remember complaining about this years ago):  The IDE requires an 8-character serial number.  It may require it to start with L and have 7 numbers.  The board I got had the serial number L644.  Using the xdsfu (xds firmware utility) I changed the serial number to L and 7 digits and the IDE understood perfectly.  Still not connected to the processor though.

Zach, did you find those connectors?  I'm willing to try to remove the existing connector and replace it with that one so I can test it.  Alternatively, if Bob has his hacked ribbon cable that will plug directly into the connector on the board, I can just send it to him.

What do you suggest?  I'd like to get some more of these ordered before they disappear.  The 45Y board is cheaper by $10 and also has a good serial number in the first place, but I am a bit worried to buy a bunch without being able to fully test one.  I'm less concerned about the more expensive 33A because it appears identical to what I have, including the need to write a new serial number to it (DUUUUUHHHH What a dumb thing!)

The boards arrived today.   Unfortunately, the connector which, in the picture, appears not to be populated IS populated. So to swap in a different connector, I would need to remove the existing one.

As you may recall, I ordered two different "CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG" boards.  It was unclear what the difference was, but now I can say more.  First, the Newark order number
45Y0928 looks identical to the one I have been using for years, but the chip is slightly different:  TM4C129/4NCPDT13 with a totally different 3rd line.  The model number on the PC board is the same though.

I plugged the 45Y board into my USB and pretended like I was downloading code.  I expected it to fail since I was not connected on the processor side, but I did get even more info:  The IDE thought it was the right device and it also told me its serial number.  This is exactly what I would have expected since I have my IDE set up to use a specific serial number.

The other board, 33AH3769, appears to be absolutely identical to the one that I have been using all along, including the chip TM4C129/4NCPDTT3.  The third line is also the same.
Then I plugged in the 33A but this one complained that there was a problem, which might be a firmware update required.  I'm pretty sure I remember having to update firmware on my long-in-use board so I'm not yet worried.  I'll see if I can remember how to update it.

I don't really know the difference between the two board but I might guess that 45Y is just a slightly newer rev with updated firmware.  However I hesitate to buy a bunch of them without having a processor connected and proving that it can load code.

More later.

Well, I got a shipping notice and a tracking number.  The tracking number does not yet register with UPS though.  I continue to say "we'll see".

The last thing I ordered from Newark was also shipped from the UK with no shipping communications and as I recall took a long time.

It was also an obsolete component by DigiKey and Mouser.

Keep us posted.

Ok, Bob.  The picture sure looks like there are "holes" there, but you never know.  I do think that I asked Zach to put the connector on the bottom so it would line the ribbon cable up correctly with the RTIHU connector.  We'll find out.  BTW, Newark says they are sending the board from the UK.  Hmm.

Burns,

I believe he is talking about a 10 pin connector on the bottom left corner of the photo that is turned down below the board.

He probably did this to make a standard ribbon cable work with female IDC connectors on each end.

We can make that change if the boards are shipped.

It may be that Newark inventory is there because they do not got so much business on TI product. Normally when an OEM drops a product they pull all the distributor inventory back. These may be a third party board which is fine if they have the same processor and code.

It will be interesting to see if the TI ARM processor TM4C1294NCPDTT3R is on these boards. If it is and several people working on AMSAT projects need these boards we probably should buy more.

The info I have is the design information I showed last night that Zach shared with me on an AMSAT version of this programming interface board.

Thanks, Zach.  That might mean that what I ordered is different.  See in the picture, the place where you added the connector is not populated.  (You have to hover over it to get the expanded version in order to see it).

Well see what happens.  Actually do you have a couple of male connectors that you could send me?  That way, I could easily add it in and test the new board (assuming it comes...maybe you'd better wait until I get a shipping number :-) )

Hello Burns and the Pacsat team,

This is not correct; I replace the female 2x5 connector with a male 2x5
shrouded/keyed connector. Instructions, already sent to Bob Strickland,
attached.
