Thanks Chris! I especially like the discussion about purpose. One research feature that occurs to me is this: Imagine a system on the Lunar Gateway (or the moon or an earth-crossing asteroid or...). We might want to use this delay-tolerant protocol to download data like pictures taken at the site of the system itself. In other words, the experiment part would be how to autonomously create files (e.g. take a picture under these circumstances) and make them available for delay-tolerant download. Similarly, one might have an uplink form that would be a command to take a picture or whatever.
This is far from Bill's expectation (which I totally agree with) to make the first version essentially replicate FalconSat-3 to get our feet wet. However, thinking about a long term goal is a great idea.
