An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesu', Rome, State of Vatican City on 10 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:36 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and HV2VO. The contact should be audible over Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian. Created in 1869 through a generous initiative of the Salviati family, and donated to the Holy See in 1924, the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital is now a comprehensive children's polyclinic. In 1985, it has been formally recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as "Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico" IRCCS (Research Hospital), and it is now one of the three Paediatric IRCCS in Italy, and the only one for Central and Southern Regions. The Hospital is a reference point in Italy and abroad and it is connected to the most important paediatric centres in Europe and the United States. Healthcare and research. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:31 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and VK5ZAI. The contact should be audible over portions of Australia. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. CJ'13 is a gathering of up to 6500 youth, leaders and volunteers in Sylvan Lake, Alberta from July 6-13. This is the largest gathering of scouts in Canada. CJ'13 will bring people from across the country and around the world together for the ultimate scouting experience. Scouts will share friendship and adventure while experiencing personal development that only a jamboree experience can bring. Scouts will hike near glaciers, dig for bones, learn about the challenges of space exploration, raid a castle, and dive for buried treasure. The week promises to be one scouts will never forget! Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How do you know where to land on Earth when you're coming back from space? 2. How do you go to the bathroom in microgravity? 3. How do you drink water in space and what would happen if some escaped? 4. Are you ever scared during takeoff or landing? 5. What happens if you vomit in space and does it ever happen? 6. How do you spend time during the day and do you get free time? 7. What do you do for entertainment? 8. How do you get your food? 9. Is it easier on your body to go out into space or re-entering the Earth's atmosphere? 10. Do you ever float around while you are sleeping and hit your head on the wall? 11. What if you run out of fuel on the station? 12. What kind of precautions are taken if the station is severely damaged in space? 13. Do you ever get tired in space? 14. Have you ever camped and looked up at the night sky knowing that one day you would be up there? 15. What scouting skills would be beneficial up in space? 16. What scouts or role models taught you through skills or self-discovery that helped you achieve your goals as an astronaut? 17. What is the most mid-blowing part of being in space? 18. What advice do you have for young scouters looking to one day earn a spot on the ISS? 19. What do you miss most about Earth? 20. When did you know you wanted to be an astronaut? The contact should be audible over the Pacific and west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. CJ’13 is a gathering of up to 6500 youth, leaders and volunteers in Sylvan Lake, Alberta from July 6-13. This is the largest gathering of scouts in Canada. IRLP will begin just prior to the ground station call to the ISS. Please note that on Echolink there are automatic breaks of 1.5 seconds in the audio transmission. Intercultura is the Italian representative of AFS Intercultural Programs (New York), an international, no profit,voluntary based organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities and cultural exchange programs throughout more than 60 different countries in the world,involving every year 13.000 students and an equivalent number of families and schools.In Italy, Intercultura is a no profit organisation (ONLUS) recognised by the Italian government, under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The professional staff of Intercultura is made by 40 people who work in the headquarter of Colle Val d'Elsa (Siena) or in the PR offices based in Milan and Rome.The 4.000 affiliated volunteers are organize in 140 local chapters and offer they voluntary work to promote international school based exchange programs. For US schools to have an ARISS contact, they must fill out a proposal, submit it to NASA, and see if they are approved or not. Once a school is approved and put on the list, an ARISS mentor will be assigned to assist the school. NASA will have two open windows a year for schools to submit a proposal. The window for contacts during the second half of 2012 has already closed. Look for the window for first half 2013 contacts later this year. You must go through NASA to get the proposal material.
