1. Upcoming School Contacts
An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been scheduled for Marcelino Canino Canino Middle School in Dorado, Puerto Rico on Tuesday, September 4 at 14:17 UTC via telebridge station K6DUE in Greenbelt, Maryland. The ARISS contact is part of a comprehensive education plan which will pique students' interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been scheduled for Gymnasium Michelstadt in Michelstadt, Germany on Friday, September 7 at 08:52 UTC. The school is part of the MINT network which specializes in the fields of Mathematics, Informatics, Nature sciences and Technology. It hopes to involve a large number of students and get them interested in science through the ARISS contact and associated hands-on activities, field trips and guest speakers.
Tara Anglican School in North Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Sunday, September 9 at 08:50 UTC via telebridge station ON4ISS in Belgium. Tara Anglican is a girls K-12 school with an observatory. The school's Astronomy Group involves students from many local schools. The ARISS contact will highlight lessons on astronomy.
2. Successful Contacts
Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, KE5DNI participated in two ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) contacts over the past week. He spoke with students attending Megina Gymnasium Mayen in Mayen, Germany on Friday, August 31 and with youth from the Iruma Junior Ham Club in Iruma, Japan on Sunday, September 2. Sunita Williams, KD5PLB picked up a third ARISS contact with the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland on Saturday, September 1. The radio contacts were integrated into comprehensive science and math lessons.
