A while back, while moving some cables, I managed to connect a 25 pin serial cable to my 25 pin parallel printer port. Some interesting things happened, the weirdest was that my computer reported a wild CPU temperature increase. I think on my MB, the chip that handles the parallel port also performs CPU temperature monitoring and I forced the chip VCC higher than normal having RS232 voltage levels presented on its I/O pins.
