Joe,
Check in the Radio's manual and see what frequency range the USB cable passes. All of the DUV data is below 200Hz and to decode we need the cable to pass audio down below 50Hz. Most radios filter that out because there is 50Hz noise from the PSU or other sources. This is one reason why an SDR is good for DUV.
If you don't have the manual or can't work it out, then monitor the audio with a soundcard spectrum analysis program and see if the noise goes down to almost 0Hz. There is a picture of the spectrum in the FoxTelem manual as I remember.
