Hi Bob, Your idea is very interesting. Let me think about it.
I happen to have all the code needed already written in Java for my Android app. It's only a question of prioritization of the limited resource which is my free time :-)

How about a JSON Next Orbit API? Query would include the satellite name and a grid location. Response would be the time of the next pass information (AOS/Time/Az, Max El/Time/Az, LOS/Time/Az).
That would make a small IoT gizmo pretty darned simple to implement and remind us when satellites will be overhead
