ABCS Digipeater The satellite will reply to an incoming radioamateur packet by resending it to ground.
The last callsign of the last radioamateur that contacted the satellite is reported in the beacon message of the satellite (type 02).
Using the digipeater is extremely simple: To use the digipeater one just needs to send a valid ax.25 data packet starting with the keyword “HAM” followed by the message.
Example: "HAMHello world!!!"
ABCS will transmit: "CQHello world!!!"
The message length is limited to 140 characters to avoid overloading the satellite radio and cope with the limited power budget. For the same reason, a dead time of about 10 seconds is then applied before the next digipeater action is enabled. However, any contact in this time window will be counted and the callsign stored onboard and reported in the beacon.

Trying to get back in tune with the sat comms after many years away from it. I have all my software kinda updated and working OK. I am just really frustrated though in trying to find the active ones or at least those that have activity on them. Lots of lists on the net that show freq/mode and say they all work but most do not.
Can anyone share their up to date list of active and working satellites (not those with just beacons on)
This is a good starting point. A couple of notes, don’t use AO-91 if it is in eclipse (bad battery). Same for AO-92, though it is just barely operational and not always at that.AO-7, minimum TX power only please, hit this old girl too hard in B mode and she will flip over to A mode.

Sounds almost like you got some bad TLEs.
That being said -- there are an awful lot of us on the FM birds. Maybe "EVERYBODY" is there.
I notice the same on six meters -- SSB has almost no activity while FT8 is overcrowded.

These are all good suggestions. n2yo leads you to a giant table that may or may not be out of date. When users ask what satellites are available for use - we should also ask what they want to do? There are many cubesats available however most of them had specific missions at one time and now are just pumping telemetry. Not equipped or suitable for voice communication. While some only do APRS or have a Packet BBS like FalconSat3. Or maybe a person wants to help with telemetry collection and so is interested in SatNogs.
Anyways, author/OP what would you like to do?

I think the AMSAT status page is a great idea because it alleviates the need for the web master from keeping up the status. However, it could be improved by identifying the FM and Linear sats so newbies (like me) can quickly figure out which satellites are available in a particular mode.
It would also be great to have some more descriptive categories to report. For example, the XW satellites are intermittent.

Comments, a UI redesign, an activation schedule, satnogs integration, and sort features would all be great additions to the amsat status page. Modernizing the amsat ground capabilities is a huge and attainable step forward we can take despite space segment delays. I would love to see the dev of amsat status open sourced. Though one could probably just scrape the data and build their own interface that allows this stuff as well.
My 2 cents anyhow.

AMSAT has discussed internally, and we are going to post the code for https://www.amsat.org/status to our GitLab instance. We'll also upload the API code. We'll reach out directly to a couple of people on this thread, to gauge interest in helping us to develop the code further. We will use this as an opportunity to test our GitLab instance as well.
Anyone interested is also welcome to e-mail the IT team at IT@amsat.org.
