IC-705 for Satellites
I saw a PowerPoint presentation on this new Icom radio suggesting it could be used for satellite operation, but it's my understanding that it is not full duplex so how are they using it on satellites without experiencing great difficulty finding their own downlink? I also am not sure if SatPC32 is compatible with this radio. Does anyone have any experience using the 705 for satellite operation?

dual FT-817's (or 818's): Old and busted. dual IC-705's: New hotness.

I assume they are doing the same thing everyone using two radios is doing. I know at least one person using two 705's on the birds.
It certainly would be lighter than using my IC-7100.

Somewhere in my dreams, Icom upgrades the IC-705 to include full duplex and a satellite mode in a future version. I'd sell all my other ham radio stuff and just go with the 705 on that day. Unfortunately, it's NOT full duplex so I think some use it paired with something else for the uplink or downlink. I think there are a few out there that bought dual 705's for satellite work. I'm not lucky enough for that though...

Although not recommended, there is no real reason to find your downlink other than avoiding other stations. Back when folks had separate transmitters and receivers it was even common practice on HF to call on your (crystal) frequency and tune around the band for someone answering your call. The same applies to satellites.
Again not recommended but very doable….
