It is a terribly sad duty for me to tell you that our dear friend, peer and colleague, Tom Clark passed away.
I have already agreed with AMSAT managment to put together a memorial talk for the AMSAT meeting and extended effort for the journal and online.
I heartbroken to lose my friend.

Tom has been inspiring me since I was a high school kid the early 80s ... I remember typing his tracking program published in Orbit magazine into my TI-99/4A computer and storing it on cassette tapes!
I also remember listening to him on the old AMSAT Launch Information Network ... back then we had to get live information on the status of a launch via an HF net on 20 or 80 meters.
Most recently Tom was very generous with his time at the 2019 AMSAT Symposium -- we were musing over an interferometer design so that Amateurs could do their own orbit determination independent of any government or commercial operation.

Tom Clark inspired me through his affiliation with TAPR (Tucson Amateur Packet Radio) and the Totally Accurate Clock, APRS, and all the other great developments. He will be missed.

This is very sad news about a truly wonderful man. I'm glad to have known him over the years. Has to be one of the smartest people I've ever met; yet, he could explain difficult concepts in easy to understand terms...huge impact on our hobby and organization, and various fields of science as well.
73 to a great one.

This is pretty gut wrenching (I know that's an understatement...not sure of the right words)...I knew Tom briefly through Bob and always had a blast talking with him about multiple topics, Amateur Radio and Radio Astronomy being among them. He was always very encouraging to a newcomer like me in the world of Amateur Satellites and to academic research (both daunting in their own ways). He always had some new widget to share and discuss or some new idea to kick around.....I wish we had more time together. He will be missed.

I knew Tom from past AMSAT conferences held at Goddard Space Flight center, NOAA Capstone GPS meetings in Baltimore, and from NASA GPS center-wide team meetings in Washington D.C. He did world class work on long baseline radio astronomy and precision timing through the application of GPS. He had a wealth of knowledge and freely shared with all. He is already deeply missed.

Very sad news indeed. I always enjoyed talking with Tom.
My most fond memory was answering the phone one day and it was Tom. It seems that AO-7 had come back to life and he was wondering if I'd be interested in trying to command it after all these years. Of course I said yes.
Not long after, a box arrived with one of the few working hardware based command encoders that I'm aware of.
As you all know, I was successful in commanding AO-7 and still have the encoder in the rack to my left here in the shack.
Tom was also extremely supportive as I made numerous contacts on AO-40 using the K Band (24 GHz) down link.
RIP Tom. You will be missed.
