Bob, I've seen a video on YouTube where the person in a very remote, rural part of the USA installed a Starling system. Nothing big was made of this; very matter-of-fact. This person was impressed, though, and reported speeds "as advertised". I do wonder at the ground stations, where they are to get global coverage. I've not researched that. I watched this one on youtube a while back that shows the setup / etc... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuxqIGBAQ2M If you watch several of the videos, it seems like the speeds are < 50Mbps. This guy goes through the plans, etc... Also, the constellation is not really complete yet, so...
He also compares it to VIASat and Hughesnet...

I've had Starlink as my ISP for about two weeks and it performs very well with downlink speeds usually between 70 to 100 Mbps and uploads around 20 Mbps. No problems running my SatNOGS Rpi and normal use of my home network. The main feature I lost is the ability to access my home PCs when travelling and I haven't found a solution yet.
Found this while browsing for the remote desktop wouldn't work: "Starlink uses Carrier Grade Network Address Translation, CGNAT, which is the same cell companies use. By default a CGNAT IP address doesn't accept incoming traffic at all. It dynamically opens ports for reply traffic (just like an outbound NAT on a consumer router does)".
There are occasional very brief drops that I notice when streaming audio presumably when it switches from one satellite to another. Interestingly I haven't seen that while streaming video.
I'm on the end of the grid and when the power fails I was losing my cable internet after a few hours. The last outage, during the wildfires, lasted several days, so that led me try Starlink, plus the technology is interesting.

Amazon lightsail will rent you a virtual Linux server with a static IP for $3.50 USD per month. This is a little small to compile my Crystal program, so I use the $20 one, but will run a VPN just fine. You may then VPN home.
Also, do they have IPV6? It might work differently. There are enough addresses that they won't need to NAT.

While the news article was interesting, it was background information to the FCC PDF file. Section 10 regarding orbital debris, and the impending need for mitigation (via satellite maneuverability?), surely will be of concern for future AMSAT deployments. This concern has been voiced in discussions on this bulletin board in the past.
On the other hand, does this mean more opportunities for AMSAT to piggyback on sats let alone launches?
