Bob is correct. The search symbol looks more like a rocket than flashlight. Chris told me there was a symbol on the tool bar and through experimentation and Google I realized it was a flashlight, not the common search symbol. Attached is an image how I do project searches. Jonathan's request for TMS570 programming boards

Many moons ago, Jonathan had someone (Chris Grill) designing programming boards for the TMS570 since the one we use was obsolete. That never went anywhere. I recently saw a bunch for sale and bought them up and now have 10-ish additional boards. In addition, Carl Wick designed a nice little 3D printed case for them. Right now, Zach, Rich, Bob Strickland, and I have at least one board and Rich and I have a couple prototype cases. My question is: Is someone other than Golf-TEE folks and Pacsat really planning to use the TMS570 and could benefit from the programming boards? If not immediately, I can hold onto them, but I don't want anyone to waste time trying to build or buy them again now that we have plenty. 73, Burns Fisher, WB1FJ *AMSAT(R) Engineering -- Flight Software* PS: To be clear, there are at least three ways to load a program into a TMS570: One is via a LaunchPad evaluation board, which has something similar to the programming board built in. Another is a TI XDS110 programming device (a $200 piece of hardware that may or may not be available). And third using this board that I am talking about, a $20 board called a SensorTag board. (And Heimir has also written a boot loader to load via a serial port, but it must be loaded using one of the above methods in order to be used).

Blinky was a crap shoot at best to try the HCG and FreeRTOS. I’ll look at your HCG and see if I find a difference. I see the HCG below but not the source code. Send it along. At least it gave you something to test load. If the problem is not resolved when I receive a working board I’ll debug the code as the exercise it was intended to be. Used a hot air with board held in vice. Lightly tug on the connector from bottom side while heating the pin solder side with 400 C hot air. Then put flux on the for pins and used solder wick and a soldering iron to remove solder and most pin holes opened up. On holes that do not open I use a dental explore tool to stick it hole when solder is melted. Remove iron and then take dental tool out. Then solder in new connector. I can do more for you if you want me to. I forgot to clean the flux off the board I am sending back. You can use isopropyl alcohol to do this. I usually use Everclear or Ethel alcohol which leaves no white residue. Blinky Working

I have a simple Blinky program working no the board. with this running we are pulling about 180 mA from the 5V supply. Still have things on the board that are not turned on yet. This is what i did to get it working… Using Halcogen I configured the Drivers, Pinmux and Het1. Then I only had to write a short program in sys_main.c. All attached here. Jim, your blinky code is not blinking LEDs. I checked with a scope also. Thanks Bob. I now have the parts, but have had nothing but trouble both removing and replacing those dumb little connectors! Any hints? I received the two Devpack programming boards from Burns. Replaced connectors on both boards and I have tested them on the Quad board and they both worked fine. Returning one of these to Burns today. I see the MAX4995 has a minimum supply voltage requirement of 1.7V volts so I will take it out of the circuit. The TMS570 has some complex power up conditions in voltage and timing. If not correct the chip can go into a constant reseting mode like I was seeing. Something that may need more study. I can see where this would all work fine in a prototype but be on the edge and when in space operating at hot of cold have an issue on startup. Initially I checked out the supplies with no CPU and all looks fine and constant. I measured them many times with a volt meter but I could not see this reset glitch happening. I finally did look ant the error output pin on the CPU and this was the point I realized there was an issue. There is about 2 uf of bypass and 22 uf of filter/loop capacitance on the 1.2 volt supply that all has to get up and stabilized. In some systems this would all happen before the power is handed over to the TMS570. The power up delays in the TMS570 may be enough to take care of this if it does not mind some instability while in the delay which is in the order of a millisecond. The TMS570 will not allow the 1.2 volt signal to fall below 0.9 volts typically and above 2.1 volts typically. On a worst case bases this could be squeezed to 1.13 volts min 1.40 volts max. I took out all the extra resistors I penciled into the JTAG interface. May be able to take out more. I think EMUn needs to be pulled down low not high. I have connected them this way because I was seeing EMU interrupts in the startup error messages earlier. They are not there on the 10 pin version of the JTAG programmer. I will test it early next week but I think it will work fine and be simpler to deal with. I see not startup error messages now when loading code. Bob

CONGRATS!!! Take the night off and then get back to work. Could be blinking real fast. The original loop program on the LaunchPad did and I thought I slowed them down but could have forgotten or missed a step. I’ll look at the code. Jim WA4CWI I finally figured out what was causing the issue. The 1.2 volt supply was dropping out due to the MAX4995ALAUT current limiting device. The 4995 was set to support up to 600 mA. Either the device is bad or it can not deal with 1.2 volts. I changed the current limit program resistor to allow 700 mA over the recommend amount and it still dropped out. The large current rush may also happen at startup and drop back after the device is running. I noticed the TMS570 error lin was dropping and the nRST line was constantly cycling. So the CPU was reseting over and over and the JTAG never had a chance. Need to study the MAX4995 data sheet more and maybe try another MAX4995 which I have. If it still gives trouble I will try wiring around it and see if the 1.2V power supply will support this. I really do not like the pulse width modulated regulator. The connectors that I had ordered just arrived (hot off the plane from Singapore) and I realized that Newark Electroncis had apparently switched the part number around on me, and they were surface mount! Messages from Test Device and Errors for a test code load.

Test Device shows some error but it may be the results are fine since it says succeeded. The error info may be related to a config issue in HalCoGen or the ID number Burns was telling us about. May also be the JTAG is not correct yet. Bob

I read a little more, and I figured out what is happening with the TRSTN pin on the Launchpad. The XDS100 checks pin J12-8 from the external JTAG connector, the JTAG_SEL pin. If it detects that an external JTAG device is present, it will tristate all the JTAG lines. All, As reported I had an issue with the five volt supply failing and the TMS570. I have raved these chips, purchased new voltage reg from mouser and have all these back on the PCB and functioning. Still not seeing proper JTAG function. I am working on this now. I have posted information to the GitHub on a revised JTAG interface schematic and PCB layout. Below attached a couple of photos showing what is supposed to be the same connection for JTAG. This is not working yet though and needs more study. I will post additional info on backup used to develop JTAG interface later. With the CPU back on the PCB the current pull is about 60 mA and power supply are holding properly. Progress On board

I tested Jim's code and saw issues. I tested additional code that I put together and also saw issues. I also built a package that I called Do Nothing which did not use anything but a loop running in flash and this would not load. I became convinced the problem was the JTAG interface was not working properly even though the TEST DEVICE in CCS indicated this did work. I think the TEST DEVICE routine was running some sort of a scan chain routine and when you load a program more is involved. I was seeing errors indicating the TSL570 could not be reset. I did not bring out the reset line on the JTAG connector because it is not a normal signal. TI does show having this connection available in one of their suggested interface diagrams. Due to the issues I started working on the PCBs I built to use them as the interface. I did not study the TI diagram well before making the PCB so it needed a lot of cut and jumpers and resistors added. It took me more than a half day to work through this. This morning I got back to testing with the newly built JTAG interface board. Things still were not working so I started to look for other issues. At this point I lost my 3.3V supply voltage. Then I found there was a short on the regulated 5V output. This all took serval hours to get through. So tonight I removed all the offending chips and since the TMS570 was getting hot I removed it as well. I will have to order more of the 5V regulators because the one I removed is not usable. It will be Wednesday before I can get these from Mouser. My thought is to put back what I can minus the TMS570. Then check the voltages and possibly the signals on the JTAG pins coming from the XDS110 through my JTAG interface board and finally to the CPU pads. When I see I have voltages from regulators back the way they are supposed to be I will solder on the TMS570 and then start trying to test the JTAG interface and code again.
