Crossband repeater and packet have been active! Don’t forget to do Doppler
correction for the crossband repeater!
Don’t forget the keyword here is Repeater. Repeaters have the FM capture
effect. Strongest into the machine wins momentarily.
Total number of ARISS ISS to earth school contacts is 395.
Total number of ARISS supported terrestrial contacts is 14.

There have been rumors in the past indicating that the ISS was having direct
contacts on the 40 meter band. There is no HF radio equipment on board and
available yet. The HF antenna is mounted. Sometimes WA3NAN will retransmit
shuttle audio.

Cross band repeater is active, last two passes over VK (0750hrs utc)
145.99 MHZ uplink and 437.800MHz downlink.
I didn't seem to need the 67Hz tone to open the repeater though.
I used 5-15watt into a quarter wave vert on the car, and RX was a VX5 with
the factory antenna.
only heard myself on the downlink, :)
i could ** only just ** hear some other stations on the uplink freq.
will try again later!!.

1200bps on but not accessible again this pass. Beacon only.
Russian comms active on 143.625MHz.
D700 packet could be heard in the background.

Strong signal as usual from ISS again this morning during the 07.50utc UK
pass. 1200bps on 145.825MHz.
But unable to get a single packet through and no stations heard, just the
ISS beacon.
Tried hitting it with a full 100w but nothing.
Something up there has changed.
Has the attitude of the station been changed / boosted since 17 December?

Accessible again this pass (1200bps) but something up there has changed.
Very quiet today (few stations) and very difficult to get through in
comparison to recent days.

All
For those of you that may be considering trying to make a contact with
the ISS on L band, here is the data you need to help you decide on how
to do it.
The measured sensitivity of the L band receiver on a D700 is -105dBm
for full quieting. The cable loss from the radio to the antenna is
9.3db. The antenna gain is zero db.
The polarization is LHCP. The path loss at the horizon on L band is
-160dB. That means the required EIRP for a full quieting contact at
the horizon is 65dBm. The path loss decreases by 15dB at 80 degrees
elevation so that means you can get full quieting with 50dBm in that
case. To further elaborate if you use a 20dB gain antenna ( a small
dish).
You can do it with 32 watts at the horizon or 1 watt at 80 degrees
elevation.
Good luck with your efforts.
I will try to answer your questions.
