Greetings from Patrick N2OEQ I recall a response to an inquiry some time ago that the D700 recieve squelch is turned up all the way when configured for crossband repeat. I tried a vertical and 30 watts up with little success. Now I am using about 25 watts into a homebrew 7 element UHF beam fro the uplink with intermittent success. It might only be my rig but I noticed the iss recieves a little low ( considering doppler compensation too) A million thanks to all who made the recent operation possible. pat

Luc: The members give us essentially zero dollars to support the building and launching of satellites through their dues. What they barely cover (if they do cover it) is their membership costs. All other dollars are direct contributions to specific missions on the web site or president's club donations. The rules for the president's club donations are straightforward. The board of directors, elected by the members, is entitled under the bylaws of the corporation to do what they see fit with the dollars. If a person doesn't like the president's club, they can make specific project donations. Your statements show your ignorance and conspiracy theory paranoia as usual. We desire a large system that will eventually encompass the globe for geostationary. In addition, we are supporting Phase 3E with MORE DOLLARS THAN WE ARE GETTING FROM INTERNATIONAL DONORS. An International Space Station Expedition 16 ARISS school contact has been planned with participants at College Reydellet, Saint-Denis, Ile de La Réunion on 25 Feb. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:42 UTC. The contact will be a direct between stations FX0STD and FR5CY/P. The contact should be audible over Reunion Island and nearby Madacascar. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The participants are expected to conduct the conversation in French. Saint-Denis is the administrative capital of the French overseas department of Reunion Island, in the Indian Ocean. The city counts 130.000 inhabitants. Jules Reydellet College is located in the centre of the city, near the Saint-Denis river. Nearly 40 teachers provide tuition to 550 students aged 10-17. Languages taught are French, Spanish, English and German, optional Latin. Jules Reydellet College collaborated to the making of SPUTNIK 40 (RS17) and students contacted Victor Afanassiev on MIR from Tsup, Moscow, September 1999.The College welcomed : Victor Poliakov and Pavel Vinogradov who threw the space model from MIR and also Jean-Lou Chretien , Jean-Pierre and Claudie Haignere. An International Space Station Expedition 16 ARISS school contact has been planned with participants at Robespierre, Rueil-Malmaison, France on 21 Feb. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:30 UTC. The contact will be a direct between stations FX0STD and F6KFA. The contact should be audible in most of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The participants are expected to conduct the conversation in French. Rueil-Malmaison is a lovely city 10 km west of Paris, near the "Mount-Valerien", surrounded by a large forest, parks and gardens, for the happiness of its 75,000 inhabitants. In the 17th century, the Cardinal of Richelieu, minister of King Louis the 13th, was the lord of Rueil. In 1799, Napoleon the 1st and his wife Josephine lived in the nice castle of Malmaison. At the end of the 19th century, famous impressionist painters like Renoir, Manet and Monet used to find scenery inspiration at the banks of the river Seine nearby. Robespierre elementary school is named after Maximilien Robespierre, a famous character of the French revolution in 1789. Robespierre is a mixed establishment for boys and girls with 10 classrooms, ranging from 1st grade to 5th grade and a total of 256 children, aged from 6 to 11. All, I would like to extend my congratulations to the ARISS-Europe team on today's successful launch of our newest on-orbit hardware delivery---additional ARISS antennas!! The antennas are mounted on the European Columbus module which flew inside the payload bay of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. The ARISS-Europe team have been working hard and diligently for over 5 years to realize this outstanding milestone. The team faced numerous challenges, including some very severe environmental testing to get approval to fly these antenna systems. I would like to thank Gaston Bertels, ON4WF for his outstanding leadership on this project and Dr. Pawel Kabacik at the Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland for his efforts in the antenna design and testing. SuitSat-1 Anniversary

All, Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the deployment of SuitSat-1/Radioskaf/AO-54 from the ISS. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers around the world that supported the SuitSat-1 development, deployment, public outreach and ground station reception. Despite its lateness, I would also like to announce that the SuitSat Certificates have been mailed to the regional QSL distributors who will, in turn, mail these to you in the very near future. Specifically, this is the ARRL in the U.S. and ARISS-EU in Europe. The Canadian certificates were mailed directly to their QTHs. I will take responsibility for the lateness in delivery of these. My extensive work travel over the past two years coupled with needing to focus on keeping the ARISS program alive despite looming budget threats were factors in not getting these to you in a timely basis. I hope you will enjoy them, just the same. I ask that you please wait for about 2 weeks before making further requests regarding the certificates. I would expect that they will be in your hands in that time frame. At the end of February will we make a second call regarding the certificates, if for some reason you did not receive it from us. 2008 brings new opportunities to you, the hams interested in ARISS. This, as we plan to commemorate the 25th anniversary of human spaceflight ham radio operation---the flight of Owen Garriott, W5LFL on the space shuttle Columbia, STS-9 in 1983. As you know, we are working to bring SuitSat-2 to reality. It is not clear when it will be deployed, but we are working feverishly to have it ready for deployment before the end of the year. And we expect to have significant ARISS crew participation starting in the October timeframe with the launch of the Expedition 18 crew and Soyuz taxi flight. As we get more details on specifics, the ARISS team will inform you through e-mail and the ARISS and ISS Fan Club Web sites. I thank all of you for your interest in ARISS. This program is truly inspirational for students, the ham radio community, and the communities surrounding the schools that have been touched by the 334 (to date) school contacts conducted since December 2001. G'day Joe, Great to see so much activity on the ISS over Australia. I found it interesting that changing polarity didn't make any difference to my uplink signals, I changed several times on different passes without any noticeable difference. I think the signals must be bouncing off all the solar panels and hardware up there and coming in at all angles. This would account for the dropouts at times when signals come in 180 deg out of phase. Regards Tony.
