An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at St. Louis Charter School, St. Louis, Missouri on 11 Nov. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 18:08 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and W0SRC. The contact should be audible over portions of the Middle U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. St. Louis Charter School is a tuition-free, publicly funded school which runs independently of the local school district. We currently serve 940 students from the City of St. Louis in grades Kindergarten through 8th. St. Louis Charter School is sponsored by University of Missouri St. Louis and is governed by a Board of Directors. This is St. Louis Charter School's 11th year of serving the children and parents of St. Louis City. St. Louis Charter School is the first charter school in Missouri to receive a 10 year charter renewal and was a recipient of the 2010 Missouri School of Character Award. In 2010, our graduates were accepted to 18 competitive entrance high schools. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Where exactly are you in space right now? 2. How do you stay in good physical shape? 19. Since you've been in space, have you located any new planets? 20. What planets, if any, can you see from where you are in space? 21. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report November 8, 2010 1. Upcoming School Contact St. Louis Charter School, St. Louis, Missouri has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Thursday, November 11 at 18:07 UTC. St. Louis is a public charter school with an enrollment of 930 students in grades K - 8. Additional students are enrolled in the school's Special Education Self Contained Classrooms. The school has integrated the ARISS contact into its science curriculum which covers the solar system, space exploration and space missions. Students have taken part in several hands on activities and research papers to prepare for the contact. 2. Malaysian Contact Successful On Tuesday, November 2, students from S.K. Bukit Damansara visited the National Planetarium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact. The youth posed questions to astronaut Doug Wheelock, KF5BOC about what it is like to live in space. The contact was made in conjunction with the "Prime Minister's - National Space Challenge Trophy 2010" event. 3. Crew Debrief Held with Caldwell-Dyson Expedition 23/24 astronaut Tracy Caldwell-Dyson, KF5DBF participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) debrief session on Wednesday, November 3. The feedback she provided on the ISS Ham radio equipment and school contacts will aid the ARISS team in updating its program procedures. 4. Astronaut Training Status On Friday, November 5, Aki Hoshide, KE5DNI was given an ARISS overview training session and Suni Williams, KD5PLB was provided with a refresher course on the ARISS program. Both astronauts are slated to fly on Expedition 32. 5. Amateur Radio Newsline Covers ARISS On November 5, the Amateur Radio Newsline Report 1734 ran three ARISS related news items under Ham Radio in Space. "The ISS Celebrates its 10th Anniversary" talks about the crew members who have flown on the Space Station, many of whom were ham radio operators. "Second Ham Station for the ISS" covers the Ericsson radio which will be installed in the Columbus module in early 2011 and "ARISSat-1 Passes Safety Test" is a status on the satellite which will soon ship to Russia for final integration and testing. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report November 1, 2010 1. Upcoming School Contact S.K. Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Tuesday, November 2 at 18:05 UTC. The contact will be made from the National Planetarium satellite ground station in conjunction with the "Prime Minister's - National Space Challenge Trophy 2010" event. The planetarium teaches space science and has an exclusive section displaying a mockup of the ISS as well as a rocket engine. Space participant Sheikh Muszaphar is frequently invited to schools to give talks to the students, encouraging them to study space science. 2. Successful ARISS Contact with Funakata Elementary On Friday, October 29, an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact was held between students from Funakata Elementary School in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan and astronaut Shannon Walker, KD5DXB on the International Space Station (ISS). The youth were able to get in 16 questions before the ISS went over the horizon. Approximately seventy students, guests and media were present. 3. Astronaut Training Status Astronauts Joe Acaba, KE5DAR and Aki Hoshide, KE5DNI participated in simulated ARISS school contacts with students attending Ralph McCall School in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada on Tuesday, October 26. The training sessions were terrestrial-based amateur radio contacts using ARISS equivalent equipment. Acaba, who is slated to fly with Expedition 31, also had an ARISS refresher course on Wednesday, October 27 for his upcoming mission in 2012. 4. AMSAT News on ARISS Events AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) ran three items in its October 31 ANS (AMSAT News Service) bulletin. A status on ARISSat is given in the entry, "ARISSat-1 Passes NASA Safety Review - Ready For Trip to Russia." The story, "Second Amateur Radio Station to be Activated on ISS" talks about the Ericssons onboard the ISS which will be installed in the Columbus module early next year, and the third item, "ARISS Contact With George Observatory Successful" covers a recent contact held with Texan Scouts. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at S.K. Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 2 Nov. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 18:05 UTC.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds.The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and 9M2RPN. The contact should be audible over Malaysia and adjacent area. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) consists of a semi-government aided primary (Sekolah Kebangsaan Methodist ACS) and secondary school (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Methodist ACS) in Jalan Melawis and Jalan Raya Barat respectively within the district of Klang. It is the oldest school in the state of Selangor and third oldest in Malaysia. ACS was founded and established on March 10, 1893, and officially opened by Sir William Hood Treacher. The primary and secondary schools initially functioned together. They were later separated when enrollment in both schools increased. The primary and secondary schools are now housed in different buildings, separated by a canteen that is located within the primary school and is adjacent to the secondary school. Students who have studied or are studying in ACS Klang are commonly known as ACS'ians. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1.
