An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Jessup Elementary, Houston, Texas on 19 April. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 18:43 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be via telebridge between NA1SS and WH6PN. The contact should be audible over Hawaii and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Jessup Elementary is a small school that has served the community for over 30 years. The school's motto is "The sky is the limit." Jessup has many supplemental programs to enrich the regular curriculum, including ESL/Bilingual, Gifted and Talented, Title 1, and Special Education programs. The Space Station contact has been integrated into the school's curriculum by essay contests and poster drawings. The relevance of spaceflight to the subjects of science, math and language arts has been made clear to our students during their preparation for the contact, and will be an exciting, immediately-relevant, hands-on educational experience during the contact itself. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How do you make contact with Earth? 2. What happens if you can't land the space shuttle in Florida? 3. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report April 12, 2010 1. Upcoming School Contact An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been scheduled for Jessup Elementary School in Houston, Texas on Monday, April 19 at 18:43 UTC. This will be a telebridge connection through ground station WH6PN in Hawaii. The school has incorporated the ARISS activity into its curriculum, specifically focusing on science, math, and language arts instruction across the pre-kindergarten to fourth grade levels. 2. Astronaut Timothy Creamer Speaks with Italian Students via ARISS On Tuesday, April 6, on-orbit astronaut Timothy Creamer, KC5WKI participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with students from Scuola Primaria De Gasperi in Bari, Italy. The contact was held at the Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza, which was designed to stimulate interest of the general public and especially youth, in fields of science and technology. To prepare for the contact, students studied principles of radio communications and space missions and were given a presentation on ARISS by ARISS mentor Francesco De Paolis, IK0WGF. The event drew an audience of more than 100 students, teachers and guests as well as members of the media. The contact audio and video were distributed throughout Europe and America by webcast, receiving 500 connections. 3. ISS Ham Debrief Held with Astronaut Jeff Williams Expedition 21/22 astronaut Jeff Williams, KD5TVQ participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) debrief session on Friday, April 9. The feedback he provided on the ISS Ham radio equipment and school contacts will help the ARISS team improve program operations. 4. ARISSat Presentation to be Given at Dayton Hamvention Dayton Hamvention 2010 will be held at the Hara Arena Complex in Dayton, Ohio on May 14 - 16. The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) will both man exhibit booths at the event. Gould Smith, WA4SXM, AMSAT Project Manager for ARISSat-1, plans to give a presentation at the AMSAT Forum titled, "Getting ARISSat-1 Ready to Fly." The Dayton Hamvention is an internationally attended amateur radio convention that draws crowds of 25,000 annually. Four Women in Space Hold Amateur Radio Licenses Shuttle STS-131 launched on April 5, carrying three women into space: Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger, KE5DAT, Stephanie Wilson, KD5DZE and JAXA astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, KE5DAS. Upon docking with the ISS, they joined Expedition 23 crew member Tracy Caldwell-Dyson, KF5DBF. This was the first time that four women have been in space, and all are licensed hams. Caldwell-Dyson will participate in her first Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with Jessup Elementary School in Houston on April 19.

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Abramowski School, Katowice, Poland on 12 April. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 06:53 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and SN0ISS. The contact should be audible over Poland and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Edward Abramowski Technical and Comprehensive Schools Complex no. 3 in Katowice (in short: Abramowski School no 3 in Katowice) was established in the year 1945 as a secondary school with one faculty - photography and technology. Later it was incorporated into the Silesian Technology Centre in Katowice. It was only in 1950 that the school became a separate teaching unit with graduates from the faculty of photography. Courtesy of intensive efforts of its headmaster and teachers, in the year 1956 the school received its own building in the district Katowice-Piotrowice which remains in its possession until today. At present, we offer our students two faculties: Photography and IT Electronics. Our Schools Complex is formed not only by the Technical High School, but also a Comprehensive School with teaching programmes covering mathematics and IT as well as journalism and photography. On the other hand, the Technical High School has classes specializing in electronics and photography profiles. Abramowski School is a modern institution with a well-qualified staff, boasting excellent educational base and equipment. We regularly modernize our facilities. Students of our school take new challenges very willingly. They take part in many knowledge-based competitions and contests, where they often win high positions. Abramowski School also has a tradition in the field of radio contact. Our School Amateur Radio Club SP9ZHQ was established in 1999 and since then has been active on many bands. ARISS - Contact Notification

Sorry for the short notice on this. We didn't think we'd be able to cover this contact until a short time ago. Please join us in listening to the ISS contact with Scuola primaria De Gasperi, Noicattaro, I-70016. Italy, direct via IZ7EVR Contact is a go for: Tue 2010-04-06 10:47:42 Audio from this contact will be fed into the IRLP 'Discovery' Reflector (9010) and the EchoLink *AMSAT* (101377) and *JK1ZRW* (277208) servers. IRLP and Echolink audio is generally transmitted around 15 minutes prior to the contact taking place so that you can hear some of the preparation that occurs. There is also a webcast available at http://it.justin.tv/cittadella Please note that on Echolink there are automatic breaks of 1.5 seconds in the audio transmission. These occur every 2.5 minutes during the event.
