An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Cavett Kids Foundation's Camp Cavett, OU Medical Center, Kingston, OK on 08 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 20:35 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and W5PAA. The contact should be audible over the central U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Cavett Kids Foundation's mission is to provide a forum of support through various camps, events and programs for children with life-threatening or chronic illnesses while promoting character, coping skills and connection. Camp Cavett is the largest camp that takes 160 kids from all walks of life with all kinds of medical problems and uses the setting at Lake Texoma to promote the character, coping and connections needed to overcome their obstacles. This setting provides an informal forum for dialogue among kids and medical personnel. They build understanding about their disease processes; they learn interpersonal skills and self-care; and they identify actions steps to deal with their social needs. Character, increased self-esteem and self-confidence are the results of the education process entwined in camp activities. When campers return home, they are empowered to manage their diseases and their lives more completely. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How difficult is it to move around with no gravity? 2. What decisions in life have helped get you to here? 3. Do you become frightened at anytime and what do you do? 4. How do you clean or shower in space? 5. How is your food cooked or prepared? 6. What do you do for relaxation? 7. What kind of clothing do you wear most of the time? 8. How do you go to the washroom in space? 9. What made you want to become an astronaut? 10. After you decided to become an astronaut, how long did it take you to get ready? 11. At what stage in your life did you decide you wanted to be an astronaut? 12. How do you drink in space because there is no gravity in space? 13. What happens to all the waste from the space station? 14. When you are in space are you ever nervous about anything? 15. What is the temperature outside the space station? 16. What was the most surprising and fascinating thing about your first space flight? 17. How does it feel when you see the earth from the space station? 18. Does weightless condition have any side effects on your system? 19. How did you start your career as an astronaut? 20. How do you make sure you have enough oxygen? 21. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report July 5, 2010 1. Upcoming School Contact Cavett Kids Foundation's Camp Cavett, based out of OU Medical Center in Kingston, Oklahoma, has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Thursday, July 8 at 20:35 UTC. The mission of the Cavett Kids Foundation is to provide a forum of support through various camps, events, and programs for children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses while promoting character, coping skills, and connection. Using ARRL (American Radio Relay League) lesson plans, children will be introduced to the basics of radio wave propagation and local radio clubs will assist with demonstrations and hands on activities. 2. Astronaut Speaks with Summer Camp via ARISS Expedition 24 astronaut Doug Wheelock, KF5BOC participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with summer camp "Astronauts in Forest," in Perugia, Italy on Friday, July 2. The connection was provided by telebridge station ON4ISS in Belgium. Wheelock managed eight questions put to him by the camp which was attended by twenty children and four staff members. The camp, which is based on astronomy and space education, provides a program of space activities for children, ages 11 to 14. 3. ARISS Included in Brazilian Space Agency Videos Brazilian Space Agency AEB has produced two videos about the International Space Station. The videos were recorded by astronaut Marcos Pontes and are the first videos showing ARISS activities in Portuguese. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Summer camp "Astronauts in forest", Perugia, Italy on 2 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 19:52 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between OR4ISS and ON4ISS. The contact should be audible over Belgium and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The educational proposal regards a program of space activities during the summer camp "Astronauts in forest" for children from 11 to 14 years that takes place in Umbria - Castel Rigone (PG). The camp is organized by Panda Avventure srl that is a Company established in Rome in 1990 to organize tourist activities, environmental and educational programs for groups in Italy and abroad. Since 1990, in cooperation with WWF -Italy, we organize outdoor holidays and school camps for young people between the ages of 6 and 17 and holidays for groups of families with children. Every year participants number more than 3500. We organized Summer Space Camp for ESA in Spain (1999 and 2000) and in Italy (2002) We conduct different kinds of tourist resorts for groups in Italy and abroad that include an Hostel for 60 people in Umbria, near Trasimeno Lake. Since 2009, at the Hostel La Foresta, Panda Avventure - in cooperation with WWF Italy - organized a summer space camp related to space discovery - "Astronauts in Forest"- for children from 11 to 14 years. The camp was supported by ESA - ESRIN that cooperated to the programme and provided the educational material. The summer camp is aimed to let children understand that it is necessary to study and protect our environment, that space researches are very important for the future of our Planet and young generations; also to initiate them to the use of scientific instruments. During summer 2010 we will organize 8 school camps related to space: On July 2010 - 4 summer camps for about 100 children in all will be entirely based on astronomy and space education. On August 2010 - 4 summer camps for about 120 children in all, will be mostly based on nature discovery but will include also researches and activities about space and the study of English (as one of Astronauts' common languages). How many hours a day do you work? 14. What do you usually do in your free time? 15. What can you see from the ISS? 16. What happens if you fall sick? 17. How do you communicate with your family? 18. Please join us in listening to the ISS contact with the Summer Camp 'Astronauts in Forest', Perugia, Italy, a telebridge via ON4ISS Contact is a go for: Friday 2nd July at 19:51 UTC. Audio from this contact will be fed into the EchoLink *AMSAT* (101377) and *JK1ZRW* (277208) servers. Audio is generally transmitted around 15 minutes prior to the contact taking place so that you can hear some of the preparation that occurs. Please note that on Echolink there are automatic breaks of 1.5 seconds in the audio transmission. These occur every 2.5 minutes during the event. ** Contact times are approximate.
