An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale "Leonardo da Vinci", Pratola Peligna, I-67035, Italy, and Istituto Comprensivo Scolastico "G. Tedeschi", Pratola Peligna, I-67035, Italy on 2 April. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:34 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and I6IBE. The contact should be audible over Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian or English. The school is named to Leonardo Da Vinci and is located in the Peligna valley, about 60 km from the city of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy. It's a Higher Technical Institute for the study of electronics, telecommunications, chemical materials, mechanical and mechatronics. The Institute is attended by students aged 14-19 and has 22 technical laboratories, 1 gymnasium and 1 soccer field and 72 classrooms connected to the Internet. The school collaborates with the local radio amateurs. The Comprehensive School "Tedeschi" in Pratola Peligna includes a school population that goes from nursery to middle school. The school population has more than 700 pupils and students. For many years, students participate in various cultural and sporting initiatives that have enabled us to achieve important goals. The contact should be audible over portions of Canada and the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Canterbury is a high school in Ottawa, Canada that runs both an arts program as well as a general high school program. The arts offered at the school include dance, visual art, drama, vocal and instrumental music, as well as literary arts. The school is well know for producing top quality performances, including elaborate musicals, numerous music nights, theatre productions and stunning visual art displays within the school and local galleries. Students in the music department even have some upcoming performances planned at the National Arts Centre. In addition to this arts focus, the school has a strong academic community and has a large number of graduates that go on to pursue the sciences in post secondary studies. We are all looking forward to the ISS communication event. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. As a freestyle skier I find that the adrenaline rush from skiing triggers my passion for skiing. Do you get an adrenaline rush from traveling into space (especially during take-off)? Lehman High School is located in Kyle, Texas, about 40 miles south of Austin. The school, which opened its doors in 2004, has an enrollment of 1,800 students. It is a full four year comprehensive high school with the usual full complement of courses needed to prepare students for a successful future. Lehman High School has its own satellite tracking station on campus. Students participating in the ISS contact researched and studied the topic of space travel before submitting their questions. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report March 28, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contacts Lehman High School students in Kyle, Texas have been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Tuesday, March 29 at 17:40 UTC. The youth have been learning about astronomy, geography and physics and have been studying for their amateur radio Technician licenses. Journalism students have established reporter contacts and will provide news briefs, interview material, photographs and video material to local news outlets. Canterbury High School, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Wednesday, March 30 at 14:56 UTC. The ARISS activity will be incorporated into the Grade 9 curriculum through the Earth and Space Science strand and into the Grade 10 curriculum through lessons on Scientific Investigation Skills and Career Exploration. An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been scheduled for Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale "Leonardo da Vinci", Pratola Peligna, Italy on Saturday, April 2 at 08:34 UTC. The contact has been integrated into telecommunications, the main focus of this institution, and has been supported by local radio amateurs. Interdisciplinary activities have included the study of electronic systems, the English language and mathematics. 2. Recent ARISS Contacts On Wednesday, March 23, Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA spoke with students from Istituto Comprensivo di Verano Brianza - Scuola Media in Italy via an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact. Nespoli, an alumnus of the school, exchanged greetings with the youth and answered 15 of their questions. Approximately 250 students, teachers and guests were on hand for the event which received regional and local media coverage. The contact supplemented course studies emphasizing astronautics, astronomy, radio techniques and English. Students from two schools in Italy, Istituto Comprensivo "G. Manzi" and Istituzione Scolalstica "Saint-Roch" jointly participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA on Saturday, March 26. The activity was part of a curriculum concentrating on space, technology and human spaceflight. Nespoli fielded the students' 34 questions over 2 consecutive ISS passes as 400 students and visitors gathered for the event. Regional and local media reported the event. 3. Stories on the 600th ARISS contact with Poland, the recent Munich, Germany contact as well as the astronaut training status were included in the report. The first piece was about the 600th ARISS contact which was performed by Cady Coleman. Another item covered the two astronauts who just passed their technician license exams and received their call signs and a final report talked about astronaut ham Doug Wheelock who will host the Dayton Hamvention Forum in May. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Istituto Comprensivo "G.Manzi", Civitavecchia, Roma, Italy, and Istituzione Scolalstica "Saint-Roch", Aosta, I-11100, Italy on 26 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:53 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and IK0WGF. The contact should be audible over Italy and adjacent regions. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian or English. The "Manzi" middle school is located in the center city of Civitavecchia, a port city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, not too far from Rome. The school is the seat of the Presidency and Secretariat, includes 22 classes of middle school, 9 classes of primary school and 3 classes of kindergarten, and is attended by about 500 students and pupils aged 3 to 14. The school is equipped with computer lab and 6 classrooms connected to the Internet and Multimedia Interactive Blackboard. The school also offers a variety of elective courses in history, geography, mathematics, education road, computer and scientific laboratory, musical instrument and chorus, theater and cinema. The School Institution "Saint Roch" in Aosta has started three years ago the bilingual project (French and Italian) "Saint-Roch Etoiles" (SRE). This is an educational project addressed to teachers, pupils and their families in Aosta Valley, Italy. SRE is devoted to the study of astronomy and space sciences, which has until now involved about 600 students from different school levels (Infant, Primary and lower Secondary School). The project started in 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, under the patronage of the Regional Board of Education of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley, with the collaboration of the Fondazione Clément Fillietroz - ONLUS, managing the Astronomical Observatory of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley (OAVdA) and the Planetarium of Lignan. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Istituto Comprensivo di Verano Brianza - Scuola Media, Verano Brianza, I-20050, Italy on 23 March. Founded in late 1960, exactly was the same school attended by Paolo Nespoli when he was young. Verano Brianza is a small town of about 7000 citizens not far from Monza, in the heart of a beautiful area called Brianza. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report March 21, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contacts Istituto Comprensivo di Verano Brianza - Scuola Media, Verano Brianza, Italy has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Wednesday, March 23 at 12:15 UTC. ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli is an alumnus of the school and his parents still reside in Verano Brianza. The contact will be integrated into the school lessons that focus on astronautics, astronomy, radio techniques and English. Istituto Comprensivo "G. Manzi", Civitavecchia, Roma, Italy has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 26 at 08:53 UTC. Students are learning about communication in space, the technology required to get into space and the history of human spaceflight. 2. Recent ARISS Contacts On Monday, March 14, students from Fair Lawn High School, Fair Lawn, New Jersey participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA onboard the ISS. The students were able to ask the 10 questions they had prepared for the astronaut with enough time left in the pass to ask an additional question and exchange comments. The contact was the highlight of a science curriculum covering space and earth science as well as human anatomy and physiology. Representatives from three newspapers and one local television station were present. North Jersey Media Group posted an article to its Web site. Scout Amateur Radio Club SP5ZBA handled the radio connection during which the astronaut fielded 19 space related questions. Nearly 120 people were in the audience and came from Plock, Liszyno, Zuromin and Warsaw. There was extensive media coverage that included newspapers, four scientific magazines, one radio magazine, a television station, national radio (two programs) and two internet portals. On Thursday, March 17, Luitpold-Gymnasium Muenchen students in Munich, Germany spoke with Paolo Nespoli, IZ0JPA on the ISS via an ARISS contact. Nespoli answered 19 questions as an audience of over 110 students, teachers and visitors listened. The contact was the highlight of studies emphasizing aeronautics, scientific work and amateur radio. Several media outlets were present including three radio stations (Bayerischer Rundfunk, Radio Charivari, Radio Arabella), one television station (Bayerisches Fernsehen) and four newspapers (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Abendzeitung, TZ-München, Münchner Merkur). An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at SIP Cossar / Da Vinci, Gorizia, Italy, and Elena Guerra Middle School, Rome, Italy on 19 March. "Leonardo da Vinci" Technical Institute includes also the Cossar institute for commerce. This school is located in Gorizia, North East of Italy, between the hills of Carso territory. The school has been built in 1920 and it gives to the students workshops and electronic labs to work with. There are almost 450 students. For this contact the students have to design a receiver in 2 meter band. "Elena Guerra" School started in 1950 and is run by "Suore Oblate dello Spirito Santo" (Holy Spirit Nuns). It is a private School, formed by Nursery, Primary and Middle School; It is our educational policy to have few classes because it is fundamental for us to guide them not only from a didactic point of view but mainly for their growth as future valuable human beings. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Luitpold-Gymnasium Muenchen, Munich, Bavaria, D-80538, Germany on 17 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:06 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and DN2MQT. The contact should be audible over portions of Europe and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Luitpold-Gymnasium is a secondary school in Munich located near by the "Englischer Garten". It was established in 1891. Famous alumni include the biochemist and Nobel Laureate Feodor Lynen, and journalist and recipient of the Buber-Rosenzweig-Medal Schalom ben Chorin. Educational activities: A special course "space flight" started in September 2009. 15 highly motivated students aged about 17 are learning about various aspects of aeronautics and are being introduced into the basics of scientific work. The planning of the scheduled radio contact was initially a collective project for this course. In September 2010 a project group consisting of students from different lower grades formed to assist their preparations. In two talks, members of the German amateur radio organization (DARC) gave a comprehensive introduction to amateur radio on the ISS. Many elements of the examination for the highest German amateur radio license ("Technische Kenntnisse" zu den Amateurfunkzeugnissen der Klasse A) are closely related to the physics curriculum and have been addressed in the respective grades. We are working with the ESA ISS Education Kit, e. g. with ESA Science (Newton in Space) Videos. In August 2010 three students presented the project at the Global Hands-On Universe Conference in Garching. A periodic newsletter called "Countdown" has been issued, with issue numbers counting backward, of course (starting with "T minus 10 months (and counting)". In this newsletter for pupils of all grades the proceedings of the project have been reported. In addition there have been news from the ISS, the members of the current crew, instructions to see the ISS, little contests, a glossary on amateur radio and so on. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Pawel Wlodkowic University College, ZOK, Zespól Szkól Zawodowych Nr 2, Plock Scientific Society, Primary School in Liszyno, Plock and Liszyno, Poland on 17 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 09:21 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and SP5ZBA/5. The contact should be audible over portions of Europe and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. 1. The Scout Amateur Radio Club SP5ZBA Founded in 1968, on the air since 1970. Primary Club activities are HF digital and field operations. 2. Pawel Wlodkowic University College in Plock Almost 20 years of tradition. It is one of the oldest non-state universities in Poland. The university offers eight specializations: Administration; Computer Science; Pedagogic; Nursery; Political Science; Physical Education, Management and National Safety. Levels: BA and MA. A lot of courses at postgraduate level have been offered as well. Over 10000 students study at Pawel Wlodkowic University College every year at the main campus in Plock and two branches in Ilawa and Wyszkow. 3. Plock Scientific Society It was founded in 1820 and one of the oldest scientific societies in Poland. It is a regional and open type institution. There are also local departments in Sierpc, Wyszogrod and Leczyca. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report March 14, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contacts Fair Lawn High School, Fair Lawn, New Jersey has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Monday, March 14 at 15:44 UTC. The contact will be integrated into the curriculum covering space and earth science as well as human anatomy and physiology. Students from five schools in Plock and Liszyno, Poland will jointly participate in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Thursday, March 17 at 09:21 UTC. Through this activity and related studies, students will learn about space and space exploration, communication and technology. The Scout Amateur Radio Club SP5ZBA will handle the radio connection for the contact. An ARISS contact has been scheduled for Luitpold-Gymnasium Muenchen, Munich, Bavaria, Germany on Thursday, March 17 at 14:05 UTC. To prepare for their contact, seventeen year olds taking the course "Spaceflight" were joined by children from lower grades to learn about aeronautics and scientific work. The ESA ISS Education Kit was used in their studies and the German amateur radio organization (DARC) gave the youth a comprehensive introduction to amateur radio on the ISS. ISIP Cossar / Da Vinci, Gorizia, Italy has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 19 at 08:38 UTC. The radio contact, the telecommunication equipment installed and used in the school as well as the collaboration with a local group of amateur radio operators will offer telecommunications students the chance to test instruments able to connect to listening posts 300 km away. 2. Recent ARISS Contacts On Tuesday, March 8, youth from ICS "Marco D'oggiono", Oggiono, Italy spoke with Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA via an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact. The astronaut fielded 13 questions before the ISS went over the horizon. Students wanted to know for example, what one needs to do to become an astronaut and what type of research is performed on the ISS. The contact was the featured event of lessons emphasizing astronautics, astronomy, radio techniques and English. Nearly 400 students and teachers and about 100 visitors were present for the contact. Regional television, local media and newspapers covered the event. An ARISS contact took place between youth attending Schulhaus Dorf in Richterswil, Switzerland and on-orbit astronaut Cady Coleman, KC5ZTH on Tuesday, March 8. Coleman answered the 22 questions prepared for her with time left to exchange greetings. The contact was the culmination of science lessons on space and gave the students the opportunity to practice their English. Students from "Francesco d'Assisi" Middle School and "Don Lorenzo Milani" Primary School in Modugno, Bari, Italy, experienced an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 12. The event was held at "Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza" in Bari where an audience of approximately 150 students, teachers, visitors and media were assembled. Astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA on the ISS spoke with the youth over 2 consecutive passes, answering 30 questions about what it is like to live in space. He answered a final question concerning the earthquake in Japan and expressed his concern for the Japanese. Regional television, local media and newspapers covered the event. On Saturday, March 12, Shri Krishna Vithyaalayam Matric School in Pollachi, India participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with ISS astronaut Cady Coleman, KC5ZTH via telebridge station IK1SLD in Italy. Twelve questions were asked and answered. The contact was integrated into science lessons about astronomy, satellites and the ISS and included radio classes taught by the Anamalai Amateur Radio Club located at the school. 3. Astronaut Training Status Astronauts Luca Parmitano (Expedition 36) and Chris Cassidy (Expedition 35) both passed their amateur radio license exams on March 8. Their call signs should be issued within a week. On March 9, Michael Hopkins completed his ARISS introductory course and is currently preparing for his amateur radio license exam. Hopkins is slated to fly with Expedition 37 in September 2013. An ARISS refresher course was provided to Chris Hadfield, KC5RNJ/VA3OOG on March 11. Hadfield is currently scheduled for Expedition 34, November 2012. 4. ARRL QST Covers ARISS Activities The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) printed a few ARISS items in its April issue of QST, which has a circulation of 156,000. Under its "Media Hits" column was a piece about ARISS and the newspaper articles and TV news stories about Adobe Bluffs Elementary School's ARISS contact and about Foster Heights Elementary/Nelson County Area Technical Center in Kentucky. The "Inside HQ" column, a column giving ARRL 2010 highlights, had a paragraph on education programs including the 48 ARISS QSOs of 2010 (not NASA's fiscal year 2010), and ARISS's 10th anniversary.

The school is located in rural part of Tamilnadu state in India. The school has got a global partnership program with Westborough school in UK. Mr.M.K.Anantha Ganesan, the founder and the Principal visited The Westborough school in September 2009. He is an amateur radio operator (VU3GPF). The "Francesco d'Assisi" Middle School is located in Modugno, a little town in the hinterland from the Adriatic coast not too far from Bari. The school is attended by about 300 students, aged from 11 to 14. The school also offers a variety of elective courses in the early afternoon, i.e. extracurricular activities. Priority is given to additional science, mathematics and Italian language courses, sports programs (such as volley), chorus and musical education, visual arts, publishing (student newspaper), preparation to mathematics competitions such as the annual "Kangaroo of Mathematics". The school has a gym, a small library and a number of laboratories: science lab, computer labs, graphic arts lab, music lab. The Primary School 3° Didactic Circle Be them "Don Lorenzo Milani" is situated in Modugno (BA), inner a city small not a lot far away from the Barium city (9 Km) chief town of the Puglia. The school is made up of 6 plessi: 3 of school of Infancy and 3 of Primary School. In 2010/2011 the school accommodates 1,039 pupils of which 613 of Primary School of age between the 6 and 10 years uniforms in 32 classes, and 426 pupils of School of Infancy of age between the 3 and 6 years uniforms in 17 sections. The pupils attend for 6 days to the week, the timetable for every lesson to the day are 5 hours of 60 minutes of the following matters Italian, mathematical, sciences, geography, English, computer science laboratory, music, image, motoria activity. RESCHEDULED CONTACT RELEASE An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Schulhaus Dorf, Richterswil, Switzerland on 8 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 13:24 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and HB9IRM. The contact should be audible over Switzerland and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Richterswil is situated at the lake of Zurich. Although it is not very big it has 4 train stations and a direct access to the highway, which is part of the national street system. Some of the approx. 11'000 inhabitants work in Zurich, which is about 30 kilometers away. Others are employed at one of the local firms or have jobs in the neighboring towns and villages. There are five schools and several kindergardens. Richterswil hosts its own museum and many different organizations such as sports clubs, a women's club, a parent's organization, a theatre group, several choirs and more. Every year on the second Saturday in November the "Räbechilbi" takes place. It is a huge turnip fair (actually the biggest in the world), where pictures made of turnips and lit by candles, are pulled through the town by school children and the members of our many clubs. This event is always visited by thousands of people, locals as well as tourists. At our school we teach about 130 children aged from 10 to 13 years. They are split up into six classes (grades 4 to 6). Staff includes 8 teachers, a social worker and 2 janitors. Our school is situated next to the church and the hospital. Our class takes new challenges very willingly. As our goal we would like them to get more information about space and space travel. We intend them to become aware of a wonderful and interesting world around ours. As non native speakers it is also a good opportunity of practicing English - a language our students learned during the last two years. The school is attended by 1140 students: 122 in the infant school, 630 in the elementary school, and 388 in the middle school. The Middle School has a Science lab, a Music room, two Art rooms and two well-equipped computer rooms, one with an interactive board. There is a gym, a canteen, a students library and a teachers library. In the Middle School we have a team of 48 teachers. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report March 7, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contact Shri Krishna Vithyaalayam Matric School, Pollachi (TK), India has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 12 at 13:34 UTC via station IK1SLD in Italy. The Anamalai Amateur Radio Club located at the school has been teaching students about the radio. In addition, the astronomy club organized sky watching sessions, and a U.S. scientist visited the school to talk about satellites and the ISS. The ARISS contact will underscore the lessons learned in these activities. 2. Recent ARISS Contacts On Wednesday, March 2 an ARISS contact was held between on-orbit astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA and Mackay State High School students in Queensland, Australia via telebridge station VK5ZAI, Australia. All 16 questions were answered. One of the approximately 200 people in attendance was the mayor of Mackay who asked the ARISS team to "keep up the good work - you are doing a great job inspiring our students." He expressed his amazement on how well timed and extremely enjoyable the contact was. Three television stations covered the radio hookup and snippets of the event were broadcast on at least 2 regional TV channels all afternoon following the contact. The Mackay Daily Mercury wrote a story on the event: http://www.dailymercury.com.au/story/2011/03/03/historic-link-to-space-mack… Technological Centre for Innovation in Communications (CeTIC) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain experienced a successful ARISS contact on Thursday, March 3. Astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA answered all 20 questions posed to him by the students. The contact supplemented lessons on orbit prediction, satellite tracking and common communications systems. Victory Primary School in Nelson, New Zealand participated in an ARISS contact on Thursday, March 3 via telebridge station W6SRJ in California. Cady Coleman, KC5ZTH answered 17 questions prepared by the students. One additional query was answered with the help of shuttle crew member Alvin Drew. The contact was the culmination of a science curriculum focused on space and technology. 3. NASA Posts Article on Ten Years of ARISS Contacts NASA posted a feature story on the 10th anniversary of ARISS contacts to its Web site. AMSAT on ARISSat-1 On March 6, the AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) News Service bulletin (ANS-065) provided a status on ARISSat-1. On April 12, the satellite will be connected to an external antenna and turned on to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's first manned spaceflight. Astronaut Training Status A few exam review sessions were provided for Chris Cassidy this past week. An ARISS introductory course is planned for Mike Hopkins on March 9 and a refresher course for Chris Hadfield is scheduled for March 10.

I may be a bit off topic, but since on April 12th Arissat-1 will be urned on to celebrate Yuri Gagarin's 50 years of the first man in space, what about Alan B. Shepard, which will be on May 5th? An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Schulhaus Dorf, Richterswil, Switzerland on 7 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:34 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and HB9IRM. The contact should be audible over Switzerland and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Richterswil is situated at the lake of Zurich. Although it is not very big it has 4 train stations and a direct access to the highway, which is part of the national street system. Some of the approx. 11'000 inhabitants work in Zurich, which is about 30 kilometers away. Others are employed at one of the local firms or have jobs in the neighboring towns and villages. There are five schools and several kindergardens. Richterswil hosts its own museum and many different organizations such as sports clubs, a women's club, a parent's organization, a theatre group, several choirs and more. Every year on the second Saturday in November the "Räbechilbi" takes place. It is a huge turnip fair (actually the biggest in the world), where pictures made of turnips and lit by candles, are pulled through the town by school children and the members of our many clubs. This event is always visited by thousands of people, locals as well as tourists. At our school we teach about 130 children aged from 10 to 13 years. They are split up into six classes (grades 4 to 6). Staff includes 8 teachers, a social worker and 2 janitors. Our school is situated next to the church and the hospital. Our class takes new challenges very willingly. As our goal we would like them to get more information about space and space travel. We intend them to become aware of a wonderful and interesting world around ours. As non native speakers it is also a good opportunity of practicing English - a language our students learned during the last two years. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How old do you have to be to go into space? What are physical requirements, if any? 2. How do you feel when the rocket launches? 3. How do you like the food in the space and how do you prepare it? 4. What's your favourite movie? 5. Do you have children, a family or a wife? The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:59 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and IZ2STR. The contact should be audible over Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian or English. The Marco d'Oggiono school is located in the very centre of Oggiono, a small town of about 8,000 people near Lecco. The school is attended by 1140 students: 122 in the infant school, 630 in the elementary school, and 388 in the middle school. The Middle School has a Science lab, a Music room, two Art rooms and two well-equipped computer rooms, one with an interactive board. There is a gym, a canteen, a students library and a teachers library. In the Middle School we have a team of 48 teachers. The subjects studied are the following: Italian, History, Geography, Maths, Science, ICT, Technology, Art, Music and the following foreign languages: English, French, German and Spanish. Victory Primary School is a decile-3 primary school of 400 students, providing Year 1 to 6 mainstream and bilingual Maori education. In doing so, it practices The Victory Pathway, which is an interactive approach to producing positively achieving young people, developing strong families and building on social capital in the Victory community. The school promotes a Home/School Partnership programme to enable parents to support their children in their studies. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Technological Centre for Innovation in Communications (CeTIC) Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, 35017, Spain on 03 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:17 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and EG8ISS. The contact should be audible over the Canary Islands and adjacent area. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Institute for Technological Development and Research in Communications (IDeTIC®), formerly known as CeTIC, is a Research and Development centre at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), which was founded in 2006. Formerly the CeTIC was composed of three research divisions in communications engineering with more than 10 years worth of experience, to whom were later added two new divisions in early 2009. Its main goal is transferring technology between companies and the university and, as part of it, to teach and train students in communications. Our staff includes researchers (both internal and third-party), PhD, MSc and BSc students, along with other collaborating staff members. In the last 5 years our research strategies and results have been supported by more than 200 publications on scientific magazines and international conferences. All of them endorsed by our participation in more than 50 research projects, most being joint collaborations amongst international institutions and cutting-edge technological companies. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Can you tell me the different procedures that you must follow if you have an important technical problem? 2. Are the effects of climate change on Earth visible from space? 3. Has the station any way to simulate day and night so you know when to sleep? 4. Can you see pollution on Earth from space? 5. How old were you when you first thought of being an astronaut? 6. How do solar storms affect the space station? 7. Would a game console like the Wii work on the ISS? 8. Do you see sparks when you close your eyes as the astronauts in the Apollo program used to? 9. What do you do in your free time? 10. What is the temperature in degrees Celsius inside and outside the station? 11. Have you seen the Canary Islands from space? 12. How are circadian rhythms affected by living in orbit? 13. Does food taste the same as here? 14. What will you miss most from space when you'll be back on Earth? 15. How long do you think it will take to inhabit other planets? 16. If you established communications with a U.F.O. and you only had three words to describe humanity, which ones would you choose? 17. What would happen if you found space debris on your way? 18. What would you do if any member of the crew in the spaceship got seriously sick? 19. What is more important for the space trip: physical training or psychological preparation? 20.
