An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Lycée européen Charles de Gaulle, Dijon, France on 09 June. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 09:09 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between RS0ISS and VK4KHZ. The contact should be audible over portions of Australia. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Russian. The european secondary school « Charles De Gaulle » is located in Dijon, region of Burgundy, France. Dijon is famous for mustard, wine, and his architecture. A lot of languages are taught in our european school « Charles De Gaulle »: english, german, spanish, russian, polish, arabic. The President Charles De Gaulle started cooperation between France and USSR by the creation of the scadron Normandie-Niemen during Second world war. After that, in 1966, De Gaulle initiated the first spatial partnership between USSR and an occidental country: lunar exploration, Saliut, Soyuz, Mir. That's why our european school is especially interested by Russia. A lot of our students (15-18 years old) study Russian language. Each year, we organize school exchanges with Russia. Personally, I taught 9 years in French secondary school in Moscow, and I organized a lot of educational projects with help of CNES, French Embassy and Alexandra Ryurikovna Titova (meetings with Jean-Loup Chrétien, Claudie Haigneré, communications in Tsup with Leopold Eyharts and Jean-Pierre Haigneré, visits of Star City, launches of microrockets.). Since 2010, biology in russian is taught in the school « Charles De Gaulle ». In 2011, our students organized an exposition for 50th birthday of the space flight of Yuri Gagarin. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report June 6, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contact South West College Enniskillen, Enniskillen, Northern Ireland has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Tuesday, June 7 at 10:28 UTC via telebridge station K6DUE in Greenbelt, Maryland. The contact has been incorporated into many school disciplines. As an example, Applied Science students have carried out experiments to learn how gravity and force affect space and they've studied the impact science technology has on human development and the environment. Topics including climate change, weather systems and the impacts of science on ecosystems have been explored. 2. Amateur Radio Newsline on ARISS On June 3, the Amateur Radio Newsline Report 1764 included a story on the new ARISS proposal process for U.S. schools. "Ham Radio in Space: New US Only Selection Process Announced for ARISS Contacts" may be found at: ftp://ftp.arnewsline.org/quincy/News/news.txt 3. Astronaut Training Status An ARISS simulated contact is planned with Kevin Ford, KF5GPP on June 13. Ford is scheduled to fly with Expedition 33 in September 2012. Don Pettit, KD5MDT and André Kuipers, PI9ISS are scheduled for an ARISS preflight session on June 22. The two astronauts are part of Expedition 30 which will launch in November 2011. 4. ARISS Presentations at Ham-Com 2011 The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) National Convention will be held at the Ham-Com 2011 in Plano, Texas on Friday and Saturday, June 10 - 11. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at South West College Enniskillen, Enniskillen, Northern Ireland on 07 June. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:28 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and K6DUE. The contact should be audible over the eastern portion of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. South West College is a Further Education College which operates in four campuses in Enniskillen, Cookstown, Dungannon, and Omagh in Northern Ireland. South West College has 18,500 student enrollments, is involved in a number of European projects, has a staffing complement of some 500 full-time staff and a similar number of part-time staff. South West College caters for students ranging from16 years old to adulthood and is a facilitator of Lifelong Learning in the South West region of Northern Ireland. Deadline for AMSAT-NA Board of Directors nomination is June 15th

All, A reminder that the deadline for submission of nominations is Wednesday, June 15th. Tick Tock! If you wish to serve, or you know someone you think should serve, now is your chance. It requires only 5 members, or one member society, to nominate. New this year, to accommodate last minute nominations to the maximum extent our existing bylaws permit, an electronic option now exists. Please see the details in the announcement below from the ANS, or on the WWW.AMSAT.ORG web site. The deadline is June 15th. A valid nom- ination requires either one Member Society, or five current individual members in good standing, to nominate an AMSAT member for the position.
