An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at European Space Agency for ESA Space Camp 2011, San Rossore Pisa, Tuscany, Italy on 23 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 09:42 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and IQ5VR. The contact should be audible over portions of Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian. 150 children and teenagers from all over Europe will participate to the European Space Agency (ESA) Camp which this year will take place in San Rossore, Pisa, Italy. The participants are children of ESA employees, aged 8-17 years old, who will enjoy a rich program of sport, nature and science activities during the two weeks of the camp (16-30 July). The ESA Space Camp is an exceptional forum for reinforcing the ESA corporate spirit among the children who take part and for learning about space and ESA activities, and a good opportunity to do sports and socialize. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Do you think aliens exist? 2. Do you like camping? 3. Did you have many friends when you were a child? 4. Are you good at sport? 5. Is it true that from space the Earth looks fragile? 6. Are you homesick? 7. What is your favorite sport? 8. Do you think the space agencies will soon detect an exo-planet with alien forms of life? 9. Do you have children? 10. Do you ever have issues with your crew mates? 11. How do you feel about the end of the Shuttle program? 12. Do you have any suggestion for a sustainable lifestyle? 13. Did you participate to survival camps during your astronaut training? 14. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 20 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 15:27 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and VE6SSC. The contact should be audible over portions of Canada and the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The ISSET Space Academy is a summer outreach program organized and run by The Institute for Space Science, Exploration and Technology at the University of Alberta with the support of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC), Edmonton Chapter. ISSET's Space Academy is designed for kids in grades 7-9 interested in space exploration as a hands-on five day camp. Trainees build and launch model rockets, and experience real challenges faced by astronauts in space, like performing complex tasks at the direction of mission control on Earth, their only connection a walkie-talkie. Space camp trainees handle real meteorites, rocks from deep space that reveal secrets of how Earth and the Universe were formed. Trainees also get access to the AMMI Lab, the U of A's virtual reality environment. With the help of virtual reality glasses campers will 'enter' a 3-D magnetic storm in outer space. The camp also includes building interactive robots and an afternoon at the Telus World of Science. The candidates will also use amateur radio when they will launch and track high altitude balloons using the APRS system. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Do the G:force simulators back on earth truly prepare an astronaut for the lift off? 2. How do you personally deal with stressful situations in space? 3. How does astronaut's pen work in zero gravity? 4. What is your daily lifestyle in space like? 5. How does living on the International Space Station influence the way you act or think about Earth and humanity? 6. What is a black hole? 7. How do you simulate gravity on the Space Station? 8. How do you feel living in zero gravity for a long time make you feel, not eating or sleeping as normal? 9. When did you decide you wanted to be an astronaut? 10. What kind of schooling did you need to do your job? 11. How does it make you feel to see Earth from space? 12. How are you returning to Earth from the Space Station? 13. Does NASA have more plans to send additional astronauts to the Space Station? 14. I am worried about a future in the space industry. Do think there will be good careers as an astronaut in the future? 15. What is your opinion of the private space industry and what role will it play? 16. Does NASA have plans to send astronauts to Mars? 17. Does everyone get along all the time on the Space Station? 18. Is it really that complicated to turn a screw in zero gravity? 19. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report July 18, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contacts University of Alberta - ISSET Space Academy (Institute for Space Science, Exploration and Technology), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Wednesday, July 20 at 15:27 UTC. ISSET's Space Academy is designed for kids in grades 7-9 interested in space exploration as a hands-on five day camp. Trainees will build and launch model rockets and experience real challenges faced by astronauts in space, such as performing complex tasks at the direction of mission control on Earth, their only connection a walkie-talkie. Approximately 150 children from all over Europe will attend this camp to participate in a program of sports, nature and science and space activities. 2. Ottawa Contact Successful On Thursday, July 14, the City of Ottawa Sports Recreation Camp in Ontario, Canada took part in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact. Telebridge station W6SRJ in California provided the connection. One hundred twenty-five students, twelve counselors and many parents were present for the event and watched as the youth asked 16 questions of ISS crew member Ron Garan, KF5GPO. Global National (Canadian network) aired the story nationally and Your Ottawa Region posted an article on its site. http://www.yourottawaregion.com/news/local/article/1043569--ground-control-… 3. ARISS-U.S. Receives Proposals for Contacts The NASA Teaching From Space Office received over 100 inquiries about the U.S. proposal process for ARISS contacts that will be scheduled during the January - July 2012 time frame. Twenty-five schools met the July 15 deadline and submitted proposals. The selection process will begin shortly. Another window of opportunity for U.S. schools and organizations to submit proposals will open later in the year. 4. ARRL QST Posts ARISS News The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) included an ARISS item in its August QST about ARRL at Hamvention, and highlighted Astronaut Doug Wheelock's participation, particularly with the youth activities. 5. AMSAT Provides ARISSat-1 Status The AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) News Service July 17 bulletin (ANS-198) included a status on ARISSat-1. The battery will be charged July 27 or 28 and a test will be conducted on the ISS over the weekend of July 30-31. Deployment is scheduled for August 3. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at City of Ottawa Sports Recreation Camp, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on 14 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:21 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and W6SRJ. The contact should be audible over the west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The City of Ottawa owns and operates dozens of recreation facilities throughout the city including everything from large multi-purpose facilities, to seniors centres, smaller recreation centres, and community buildings. The Walter Baker Centre represents one of the larger facilities incorporating Swimming training at all levels, hockey arenas, Weight and Cardio Rooms, Aerobic Studios and various other fitness related activity centres for all ages operating all year. The summer camp groups have access to all these facilities including the High School library that forms part of the facility and is attached directly to the School. This year, summer campers are undertaking some new and interesting activities one of which includes a brief talk with the International Space Station - we anticipate substantial interest and participation in this event. The Walter Baker Centre is one of the larger facilities incorporating swimming training at all levels, hockey arenas, weight and cardio rooms, aerobic studios and various other fitness related activity centres for all ages, operating all year. The summer camp groups have access to all these facilities including the high school library that forms part of the facility and is attached directly to the school. This year, summer campers are undertaking some new and interesting activities, one of which includes a brief talk with the International Space Station. Substantial interest in this event is anticipated. 2. Japanese Contact Successful On Friday, July 8, students from the Matsumoto School for the Visually Impaired, Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with on-orbit astronaut Satoshi Furukawa KE5DAW. An audience of approximately 40 people listened as eight students got in one question each before the ISS went over the horizon. Media coverage included 5 newspapers. The school, founded in 1912, currently has an enrollment of 29 students of all ages, that all have one or more disabilities. By participating in this NASA educational program, students have become more interested in space and international communication. 3. AMSAT Covers ARISSat-1 The AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) News Service July 10 bulletin (ANS-191) included an update on the deployment of ARISSat-1. Status of ARISS U.S. Proposal Process ARISS has received 100 inquiries about the U.S. proposal process for contacts that will be scheduled during the January - July 2012 time frame. Proposals have started to come in and may be submitted until the deadline of July 15, 2011. Another window of opportunity for U.S. schools and organizations to submit proposals will open later in the year.

About Shuttle Retransmissions

Hello: As this is the final Shuttle mission I would like to know if anyone has confirmation about any audio retransmission over Amateur Radio Band that may take place, much better if it is in HF due to the path lenght from USA to Cuba as I belive it won't be viable at VHF. I visited Goddard Radio Club (WA3NAN) web page looking for information, but I was only able to get the possible frequencies, not confirmation about the current mission activation or not. Please if any one has confirmed information about frecuencies, times and dates it will be very appreciated.
