Additional information for those interested can be found in the minutes of the 2011 Board Meeting which appear in the current issue of the AMSAT Journal. We have a full slate of candidates this year. Remember, this is one of your best opportunities to make your views on the path of our organization known. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Canada Science and Technology Museum Summer Day Camps, Ottawa, ON, Canada on 09 Aug. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 18:39 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between OR4ISS and IK1SLD. The contact should be audible over Italy and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is a national museum located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The Museum's day camps are a large part of the educational strategy of the Museum to cultivate scientific, technological and engineering literacy in Canada. Our Summer Camps programs have run for over 12 years for children aged 6-12 with a curiosity for science. Each of the five camps has a different theme incorporating various aspects of science, technology and engineering: Adventures in Science (ages 6-8), Gadgets and Gizmos (ages 6-8), Junior Astronomers (ages 6-8), Ultimate Builders (ages 9-12) and Adventures in Robotics (ages 9-12). Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. When you were a kid, did you always know you wanted to be an astronaut? 2. Can you tell us about one of the experiments you're doing on the space station, and how it will help us back on Earth? 3. I am in the Robotics summer camp at the Museum, and would like to know in what ways robots are being used on the space station? 4. I am in the Junior Astronomers Camp at the Museum. What is your favourite planet or moon in our Solar System, and why? 5. Do you ever have a good night's sleep on the space station, and do you dream the same way as you do on Earth? 6. What is the scariest part of being in space? 7. There are people from around the world on the space station, how do you choose which countries astronauts come from, and which ones get to go? 8. My least favourite subject in school is Math, but my teacher tells me it is important to learn. Do you ever use mathematics as an astronaut or on the space station? 9. What food do you miss the most from Earth? 10. Why do you think space travel is important to science and engineering? 11. Roberta Bondar was the first Canadian woman in space. Since then, how many women have been in space? 12. What are the different jobs an astronaut can have on board the space station? 13. If you had not become an astronaut, what profession would you be in? 14. Would you ever want to go to on a mission to Mars? Why or why not? 15. What is the most valuable thing you have learned since becoming an astronaut? 16. What advice would you give to someone who wants to be an astronaut? An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Space Jam 6 at the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum, Rantoul, IL on 5 Aug. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:06 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and WB9SA. The contact should be audible over the central U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Space Jam 6 is a Boy Scout and Girl Scout weekend event that helps to prepare youth for an increasingly technology oriented future. While we still teach our core pioneering skills, today's pioneers are involved in the space program. If the young people today want to be ready for this future they need the STEM skills that we focus on. Space Exploration, Robotics, Electronics, Radio, Engineering and Aviation are just a few of the 38 merit badges we are offering. Our theme this year is the History of Aviation and with the help of the Young Eagles program we are able to offer actual airplane rides to Scouts. Our event is located at the Rantoul, Illinois Airport, formally the Chanute Air Base, where some Tuskegee airman began their training and we will have a couple representatives give a keynote speech to the Scouts. Next year, our theme will be the Future of Space Exploration. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How old were you when you decided to become an astronaut? 2. How important is it to be fit in space? 3. What advice would you give to young women what want to be astronauts? 4. Do you like flying helicopters, airplanes or spaceships best? 5. Can you see your home from space? 6. Can you swim in the air in the space station? 7. What is the most important change in the space station? 8. Is it true that it will take over a year to go to Mars and back? 9. What vegetables can you grow in space on your way to Mars? 10. Do you think we should artificially isolate a test crew for a year? 11. During a heavily automated flight to Mars, how would you personally fight boredom? 12. Will the crew on a Mars mission have both men and women? 13. Could the landing capsule on Mars transform into a self contained rover with wheels? 14. How will spacesuits be different on Mars and have you tried on the Mark 3 spacesuit? 15. Is it true that dust devils on Mars create huge static electrical charges? 16.
